I do not think the difference in quality in league 1 and the championship is taht big. We showed we could beat everyone last year, I think team spirit and a winning mentality is the most important thing now

Agreed. Just look at how well we played against Blackpool AND Man U last season.

I said on another forum that I'd need to see half a dozen league games to make up my mind about where I think Saints will finish this season. I still need another five, but by goodness, that was an impressive start. A supposedly disjointed Leeds were made to look disjointed. That was SFC team superiority, and nothing to do with Leeds being a poor side.

I was happy for a mid-table finish before the Leeds game and still would settle for that after the game. But i think a few teams will be more afraid of us now then they was before the season with the football we play and they way took our chances yesterday!

Just thought. Unlike last season, where teams came to St Marys and tried to shut us out, the teams in the Championship are largely going to make a game of it. After watching us perform against Leeds, I think some/many/most [insert appropriate word] of them are going to come severely unstuck. This season could be all about our Away form.

I think in this league more than any other, it is very close that each and every game is a 50/50. The West Ham vs Cardiff match is a perfect example. There are going to be a lot of goals in the last ten minutes that'll swing the match. That being said anything better than mid-table will show that we are progressing. If we can keep the momentum through a very tough September and keep injury free until December then top 8 should be a possibility.

We will finish 1st - 6th place imo. We already know for fact that we are in the market for a quality cb & a 3 million+ striker this wouldnt of changed. These players will be on the bus by September & we will give a right go im sure!

William Hill just put us at 7/2, 4th favourites behind West Ham Leicester and Ipswich, for promotion. Theres one answer for you :)

After Norwich, the teams that got promoted from League 1 are always going to get better odds. Still would settle for mid-table but as long as we finish above Pompey and Brighton.

I still reckon we have an outside shot at the playoffs. Just need a new CB and we're set for the challenge.

my sentiments have been echoed by Jdub.
this is how i felt before the match and the win only reaffirmed my feelings. of course i dont think we would be dissapointed with outside the playoffs this year but lets face it with all the teams coming up and doing so well in the last few years and the progress we have made, its hard not to think we can emulate some of them.

As long as we finish above the Skate Scum I will be happy

We will need to sign another forward, CB and another winger, and if we can continue in the same vein as Saturday we should be there or there abouts for play offs at end of season.

I was there Saturday, and I have to say that was the best atmosphere I have felt in a long time, people believe, and when the fans believe so do the players.

The we re going up chant was the most uplifting moment I have felt at Saints in a very long time. Long may the buzz continue I say.

Interesting comments from the beginnings of the season. Thought I'd bump the thread so that everyone can have a look. Bit of fun anyway. There's another one I've found which is pretty good too.

So... bump she goes..!

I bumped this thread because of a few other people's comments. I noticed my earlier comment in the thread, and thought, yeah, that's typical me. But I didn't spot this one until now, and I'm really quite proud of it.
