The thing with the poppy is...

If you talk to anyone, read the news, hear people on the street, even look at polls

the general gist if that most people think the players/team should just defy FIFA and wear them anyway-

but the reality is the reason why Wales/Ireland have backed down is they cant be bothered to face the fines/deal with point losses... they just arent in the position to do so.

Losing points over a poppy?

At the end of the day its over a poppy. I understand its a mark of respect etc. but there are plenty of other ways to do so. If you want the poppy printed on so much there is no rules against having poppy printed shoe laces? Why don't the players do that? But truth be told not all players even want to wear the poppy for personal reasons and that is fair enough and alot are forced/shamed into wearing one by the poppy police of this country. Its a shame that such a great football game has come down to the poppy. There will be silence before the game and spectators can wear poppys and no doubt every single person on the television will have a poppy on it is just the players on the pitch.

If you are a true fan of the game you will simply get over it and mark your respect in other ways.

Sorry poppy police but I have said my peace x
England v Scotland: Fifa says Poppy ban reports a 'distortion of facts'

Fifa says it has not banned the display of poppies by England and Scotland footballers, insisting any such claim is a "distortion of the facts".

Both England and Scotland asked to wear black armbands bearing a poppy during their World Cup qualifier at Wembley on Friday, which is Armistice Day.

Rules forbid "political" statements on shirts and Fifa says it does not have the power to grant such requests.

Northern Ireland and Wales will wear plain armbands in their fixtures.

Fifa says it has reminded the four football associations of the rules - though the FA of Wales said Fifa "turned down a request for the Wales national team to wear poppies on their shirts or on armbands".

England Under-21s wore poppies on black armbands during their win over Italy on Thursday night.

Football's rules are laid out by the International Football Association Board - which is made up of the four British FAs and Fifa. Any breach of the rules is dealt with by Fifa's disciplinary committee - which Fifa says is an independent body.

It added it could not pre-judge what symbols would constitute a breach of rules.

Fifa said that when contacted by the four FAs about wearing poppy symbols, it "reminded them about law four" - which states players are not allowed to wear "political, religious or personal slogans, statements or images".

The sport's governing says it "reiterated" to the FAs that "only the independent disciplinary committee can decide" if the rules have been broken and what sanction should apply.

"The perception that Fifa 'banned' anything is a distortion of the facts," it added.

Are you supporting Scotland John? Did they brainwash you in Aberdeen.

Not a ****ing chance, when I went up there if England weren't playing and Scotland was I would support them. Since being there I am like all of them north of the border when they are playing England, whoever they are playing I support their opposition.

there you go mate

Ffs. Same old same old. Doesn't matter who the manager is they pick the same big names who consistently fail to perform. Where's Austin, Vardy, Drinkwater, Davies, Keane (Michael) who all should be in the team tonight. They'd play with a lot more vigour and passion than this sorry lot. I can already tell it's going to be the usual lethargic sideways passing in our own half with not a hint of tempo or goal threat. I'm really losing interest with the England team, I might not even bother watching tonight.
