I'm loathe to get on Naismith's back, because it doesn't achieve anything. I have to say, though, I find the Naismith apologists a little boring.

He's really not that good, and he cost way more than he is worth (in my opinion). The manager seems to agree, and maybe a (late) sub is where he is just now.

Personally, I also think it's unfair to criticise a player for the amount he cost. We paid an inflated price because it was the January window, but that's not Naismith's fault. Many people on here were more than willing to pay £14m in the summer for McCormack, who so far has scored 2 goals in 7 games for Villa and is struggling to get into their starting line-up. Naismith will have to fight for his place like any other player and even more so now after Pritchard had such a good game yesterday, but I'm glad we have him as an option.

I wanted us to pay £10m for Gayle who is on 9 (nine) goals.

Could it just be that seeing how well AP played yesterday and how well he linked up with Wes that SN feels he has to up his game to even be on the bench???
I've just listened to Canary Call and most callers who had been at the game commented on how well that pairing worked.

I had a feeling that was coming DD! ;)
You quite rightly use the potential purchase of the overrated 30 year old Scot as a "careful what you wish for" moment but the failure to buy Gayle even though we were heavily linked but didn't want to pay the fee Newcastle did was foolish.
Gayle scored a hat full for Palace and is different class in this league.

I think that's right, Braveheart, and that's the way it should be. I have a feeling that Wes will be rested against Fulham so Pritchard can have a go at AM with either Brady or Naismith on the left, though Howson may also be available from what AN said after the match.

I added more to my post about Gayle, DD, so I'll repeat it here. "I don't think we had a chance for Gayle once Newcastle came in and although a think he's a very good Championship striker, I'm less sure he'd be an asset if we get promoted."

I was really happy to see Pritchard and Hoolahan start yesterday. Didn't think AN would be that bold. If they have a run of games starting together, creativity will be fantastic.

I see Nelson got a few seconds yesterday. Another appearance with no goal! Let's all get on his back!

I think we could have got him if we didn't faff about with derisory offers we nearly signed him in January we should have gone all out in the summer.

It must be excellent for AN to have such options to choose from in midfield and any player that wants to keep his place has to play well - I'm hopeful that there won't be any repeat of the 'no show' at St Andrews!!

Whilst Jerome may have scored fewer goals than Gayle, he has 2 assists (who can forget his lay off for Brady's winner at Molineux??) to Gayle's none. Anyone who can get to see some of our games can appreciate how much effort Jerome puts in and were he to get even the slightest protection re the holding/pulling back that he has to endure from defenders, I'm sure he could bring even more to the team.

But as mentioned earlier, with the gift of hindsight [which only one or two on this forum are privy to <ok> ;) ] for a nominal sum more (exactly the same as we bid for Afobe in the previous window, in fact) we could have had Gayle instead, who has already proven to be a far more astute buy / far less of a waste of money than Naismith. I really don't see why a few on here can't see / accept / grasp that fact? :emoticon-0112-wonde
