Can see a Fenwick type situation beginning to form here - his angst began when PT dropped Mussie for Boaz.

Let the obsession commence!

Obviously you missed the two slow rollers (Lailana and Mane) that Marshall stood flatfooted watching without even making an effort to get across goal, and the Milner penalty where he guessed correctly but dove over the top off because he couldnt get down. THREE howlers. Those are the kind of shots that Jak has been saving all season. Liverpool should have been a 2-1 game with Jak in the net. Try watching the game replay to see for yourself.

I was at the game and all three goals you've described happened directly in front of me.

Nothing he could have done for Lilana or Mane's goals. He knew himself how close he got to saving the penalty and on another day he might have.

Overall he looked good IMO, a lot more dependable that Eldin.

He's the best keeper in the squad but only marginally. I just think that £5 million would have been spent better elsewhere, like a centre-half or full-back.

Jak was definitely to blame for Arsenal's first goal .. flapped at it and knocked it straight back into the area .. and as for the suggestions his distribution is much much better .. give ya head a shake .. while he has improved immeasurably he still does not inspire confidence when crosses come in or he has to deal with clearances .. still Marshall all day long for me

I've just watched all our performances on MOTD, ok only highlights, but back to back, I think Jak has been extremely unlucky to lose his place.
Likewise Marshall was unlucky to concede 5, unless Marshall has a mare v Chelski I think he's the better of the 2, only just.
Did we really need a new keeper though? IMO, no! I think, as above, a new RB/LB would have been better or add a better striker.
He's here now though & will be No1 for the foreseeable future.
Jak has great agility & may have got to some of those v Liverpool, but Marshall looks good, although they didn't show much of him really.

Surely the conclusion is that we have two good goalkeepers. And that's a good thing, isn't it? Clearly there's an issue around the dynamics of who gets picked tomorrow, but that's a nice problem for Phelan to have.

There's some very clueless people on here when it comes to goalkeepers.
Marshall is far far superior to Jak. I love jakapovic but his technique is terrible. He has good reactions, excellent reactions in fact but that's only a small part of being a goalkeeper. When he makes a save the ball can go literally ANYWHERE! The best goalkeepers aren't often seen making acrobatic last minute reflex saves because they are positioned properly and are set and ready for the shot.
Think of a defender, it's not always the one diving the make a last ditch tackle who's the best. It's the one who reads the game and intercepts the pass before the danger ever becomes a danger. Or a striker, it's the ones who always seem to be in the right position at the right time who score the goals.
It's the same with goalkeepers, years and years of practice and dedication and amazing concentration to stay switched on and be where you need to be to turn the acrobatics jak does into simple saves.

In the four weeks this season that Jakupovic was our starting keeper he was (a) chosen as the best keeper in Europe in the ALL-EUROPEAN team of the week one week and (b) as the best keeper in the ALL-EPL team of the week on another week. Two brilliant performances in four weeks. On the Arsenal own goal he pushed out wide a shot that was heading inside the far post, and when it was sent back Sanchez hit it against a defender directly in front of Jak and it left him no chance. He then saved a penalty to keep us in the game, before giving up a goal to a 30-yard screamer into the top corner in the last minute.

And you are the EXPERT on technique and the rest of us are CLUELESS???? You need to give your head a shake mate. Marshall was valued at 15 mill. and being chased by top four clubs two years ago. Since then he has been deemed expendable by a Championship relegation candidate club and let go for 5 mill. Does that tell you anything? He had a good game at Stoke and kept his place against Liverpool. Fair enough. But he showed how far he has declined in the past two years by failing to make 2-3 "simple saves" when he switched off and stood flatfooted as two weak shots rolled in and he dived over a saveable penalty. Where was his brilliant "positioning" on those. In Jaks case his saves aren't "acrobatics" as you put it, but concentration and just bloody good goalkeeping. I'll take the verdict of the All-European and EPL voters over yours any day. Your claim that Marshall is "far superior" to Jak is bullshit.

Is there anyone who went to Stoke and Liverpool who doesn't think Marshall should start?

What a bloody stupid post. You dont have to be sitting far back in a crowd behind one goal hardly able to see the other end to make that judgement.

Ever heard of TV which shows the goals AT BOTH ENDS IN CLOSE UP.??? Since there were less than 3000 at Liverpool, probably twice as many watched it on a big screen which clearly showed Marshall's slowness on three of the Liverpool goals.

Ever heard of Tiger Player replays???? Which you can watch over and over again and see the same Marshall errors.

Why not ask is there anyone who saw the FIRST FOUR GAMES who does not think Jakupovich is the better keeper.???? Two wins plus a 92 minute shut out against Man U. who were scoring goals for fun in their earlier games, until Elmos last minute error on Rooney coverage. Even Arsenal was close till the last eight minutes, with only 10 men. Marshall did well at Stoke and deserved another start. But now he should wait his turn again.

Opinions are like arseholes, everyone's got one.

My opinion is that David Marshall is in the top dozen keepers in the PL and I'm chuffed to ****ery we signed him.

My opinion is that Eldin has started well but really isn't in the same class, I have nothing against the bloke but that's my opinion.

FACT.

Ever heard of discussing things without coming across as a complete ****?
