good question.
Its difficult.
Brexit may change this but for the UEFA rules man city only have 21 registered players in europe right now cos they cannot meet it.
we need 4 club trained players and 4 association players.
Club trained are players trained by us in accordance with the age and 3 seasons rule and can be any nationality.
I quote:
"The UEFA Home Grown Player rules stipulate that 4 of the designated squad players have to be ‘club-trained’ and 4 must also be ‘association-trained’. A club-trained player is defined as a player who regardless of his place of birth has been registered between the ages of 15 and 21 with his current club for a period of three entire seasons or 36 months. An ‘association-trained’ player fulfils the same criteria but with another club in the same association."
As of now this could be Flanagan, Randall... but gomez needs one more year after this current one to qualify. Ojo would qualify eventually. oyou can't just throw kids at this group either. they must be over 21.
Our club trained is not an issue par se.
Clyne
Ings
Stewart
Milner
henderson
Sturridge
So in actual fact association players are not as valuable now as own club trained players. city spent 49mil on stelring cos he was english... but actually having 4 guys over 21 who you trained is vital now.
LFC just don't have it. We need 4 to have a full CL squad but they equally have to be actually good enough to play in the CL at the same time.
Dont need to think about how many home grown we have, just work out how many non home grown we have as we can only have a max of 17. If we have more than 17 then we're in trouble no mattter if we have 8 or 2 home grown as we'all have to leave a foreigner out
