Yup, I can, and it will be with a slight smile on my face remembering all the nice old towns I've seen since I left the ****hole I came from. Now why doesn't Polly go put the kettle on and drink something that helps relaxation and eloquent discussion.
Your attitude towards Hull says more about you than it does about this city, my bitter old mucker.

Wasnt it Bunkers who started off like this awhile ago. Getting more and more irate as people questioned his stance? Then he demanded to leave ...

Yeah, but as I recall it people became more and more irate with my stance too, so don't give me your crap about how you all agree with each other. I know no other message board where people argue with each other as they do here .. and they are supposed to be on the same side! But anyway, they wouldn't delete my account. So when I feel like arguing I come back and make a point! So what's your's?

I haven't a clue what a marina has to do with an Old Town. The original users of Railway Dock wouldn't believe their eyes ... half full with gin palaces that never go anywhere ... and that is easy to explain ... and a few canal boats a.k.a. caravans on the watter. And Princes Dock Street? Opposite that commercial abomination on stilts? What's old about that?

If you want to see how to maintain an old urban district, perhaps the easiest thing for you to do is jump on the ferry to Rotterdam and take a taxi ride to Willemstad on Haringvliet, and take a look at the brick dimensions. Or come over my way and see Vestergade in Ærøskøbing. They really shouldn't try to erect new buildings in imitation old style, and even less, build Princes Quay or The Deep in a location that is supposed to be traditional.

Old has to sit alongside new, nothing stays the same forever.

You mention Rotterdam, but that has some of the most garish new architecture in Europe.

I think we need to keep in mind that some of the areas we speak about are no longer working areas, and haven't been for decades. What's wrong with making them leisure spaces? You can't make whole swathes of a City centre a real life museum.

But it's easy just to dismiss something out of hand. Many people enjoy these areas, and look to the future.

Bunkers, when you referred to 'the ****hole you came from', were you referring to Hull?

If so, I will not engage with you further on this as pre-conceived, deep-set negativity like that is often too far ingrained to be rational. IMO.

He needs to see a shrink. So much self-loathing.

Do you assert that Hull has not been on the decline for a very long time, still is, and there is no outlook other than more of the same? If so, please do elaborate
Hull is in the best place it's been for years
Lots of investment in the area
A thriving cultural scene, with some amazing festivals and events
A successful football team
National and international recognition (Guardian did a nice piece over the weekend for example)
And some beautiful developments re energising the city

That do?
