Well, I hope that there are some exciting finishes or spectacular displays on Arc Trials Day because there appears to be a distinct lack of quality and virtually no betting opportunities.

In the Prix Niel, is Makahiki the next Orfevre, or is he good enough to win the big one for Japan? I cannot imagine that he is going to be any sort of price on the PMU (or with the British bookies) and he may attract half the Japanese in Europe to Chantilly, making it very crammed! Only two of his opponents currently hold Arc entries and I would be delighted to see Midday’s son Midterm win or at least run the favourite close, just so I know that I will get a chance to recoup my lost Derby ante post money in the future.

Whether Endless Time is good enough to win the Prix Vermeille may boil down to whether the three year olds in the field are any good. The field lacks any Group 1 winners chasing a first prize of €199,990, whilst several Group 1 winners are standing in their boxes in Britain and Ireland.

Silverware ought to start favourite for the underwhelming Prix Foy, where the only other Arc entry is One Foot In Heaven. I expect this to just turn into a typical French sprint in the straight, so definitely not a betting proposition.

I cannot imagine that Vazirabad will start longer than about 1/5 on the PMU for the Prix Gladiateur after all the deductions.

The only betting race on the card is the Prix Du Moulin, starting considerably further from the windmill than it does usually! It looks like the market might be quite open with Zarak and Vadamos in the mix but my preference is for course and distance Prix Jean Prat winner ZELZAL, from the all-conquering Jean-Claude Rouget stable. He will collect this on his way to Ascot for a shot at the QEII, sponsored by his owner.

For what it is worth, I expect Churchill to beat Mehmas in the National Stakes at Leopardstown but I do not think it will be shown at Chantilly!

Annoyingly the winning post for the first race at Chantilly is a furlong past the stands. I guess they do not have 1000m sprints here often.

It is very sparsely populated here today just like it used to be at Longchamp. There is a Japanese TV crew and a couple of oriental photographers.

Nice winner to start the afternoon for Ted Durcan. Hopefully he can ride a double.

    Couple of fancies for today,

Varien horses running better now so with the soft ground and distance to suit, MONOTYPE should be winning the 4.10 FLas.

3.00 FLas MANNERS PLEASE won well in the soft last time and the extra furlong shouldn't be a problem.
4.45 FLas quite like the look of RAYAA in this one.

With normal progress the first two favs should be winning at Chelmsford. In the 3.25 GENTLEMEN seems to like it here and has a few wins so around 7/1 can be done ew.

3.15 Bath, BABYFACT likes it here has several wins and can be backed ew too.

Hopefully a few winners for me today.

Just back from Sunday morning run so a little late with this:

    125 Al Mourtajez 2/5
    155 Subjective 4/9
    200 Makahiki 1/3
    230 Defoe 1/3
450 Order of St George 1/6
    505 Vazirabad 8/15

1st leg wins, where does it fail?

Haggas horses are Distill 13/2 and Biologist 13/2.

Also 1st goal scorer McCormack 9/2 Costa 7/2 Lukaku no price 3 singles and a treble!

Feck me, if that Makahiki is that prominent for the Arc we're looking at a seriously poor renewal.

Found might just have to turn up.

I don't think any of them would be near 100% today mate so the first 3 should come on for that. Hard to see any of them giving weight to the filly though.

The look of disbelief of the winners connections would give case to believe they were expecting a hell of a lot more. They looked bewildered.

As has been proved almost year in year out there's almost always an over rated Japanese horse winning egg and spoon races before coming over and falling short.

Sooner this anti climax of an Arc is over the sooner the good stuff can begin. Awful flat season.

Holy ****, if he takes well to chasing he could be some animal, I've been looking forward to seeing him over the larger ones for some time now. Imagine if he travelled and stayed like he does over hurdles.
