I can quite easily believe that Cortese was spending too much.
There has to be a reason why Katharina stepped in...other than Nicola alienating everyone. The training ground costs had got out of control and Nicola borrowed money (did he have permission as he was virtually treating it as his own fiefdom). However, I do understand the problem of financing a PL side without PL money (at that moment)....we'd got rapidly promoted with a lot of bonuses to pay out. Tbf...Katharina didn't step in and just cut costs...she (and her new board) spent money where they had to and she provided the money (which I presume is what we are paying back now).

I think some people are reading too much into Jay's goal. He basically got the ball, head down, and then shot from whereever he was every time he got it. The shot he scored ith was poor. I would wait to see him doing a bit mor ina less frenetic part of a match before I start thinking he will be the amswer to our scoring issues.

Just saw the breakdown for the Sissoko deal. £6m a year for 5 years, subject to him still being at Spurs. So if he is crap and they sell him after a year he only cost £6m (plus wages)

Levy still the king at transfers

In which case u would sell his clubs to someone who was more interested in making use of them? Instead of letting the! Slowly rust in the garage?
Kat loves the club and that is a fact. She just wants the club to be able to run itself rather then her pump 100 of millions each year. Is this the right idea? We will see at the end of the season. But for me I would rather be run right then have a huge debt

Does she do that? Surely most of the money comes from tv rights and match tickets, does she actually pump hundreds of millions of her own cash into the club each year? If she does there is something seriously wrong!!!

Seeing as of last year we owed her around £50m, she does. She has written of a few loans before as well. People seem to forget that we aren't a big club with crazy sponsorship deals.

No ones expecting us to spend like Man U/City, Chelsea, Arsenal etc, but when teams like Palace, Stoke, Bournemouth & Watford are spending more than us, there's something not quite right.
What you haven't taken into account Saints may have approached many a deal in this window and found they wasn't value for money. Other teams will risk many things just to get players in,you don't know how these other clubs have financed these deals, one thing would have been nice would have been able to buy English/British but as you've seen many players are very well overpriced so it's the foreign market that we attain to.
If you've a certain budget, criteria to stick to and that keeps you're club on a decent financial footing you will not go over it at many risks.

Hmmmm, that £50m was mostly the initial purchase of the club & writing off the stadium mortgage, done by her father. She never wrote off loans, she changed them into equity. What is weird is why Saints then got two further loans from outside sources. I think one was when Cortese went a bit rogue. But the other one, I think was to finish off Staplewood extension. So I would presume SHE REFUSED to fund that herself? Because why would you get a loan from a bank and pay interest on it when your billionaire owner could give you a loan, interest free????

Have no clue. Sure we will see in the accounts soon. It would be crazy if we are still losing money.

As I mentioned earlier, I think Saints will make a big revenue profit, but I expect "exceptional items" will reduce that to avoid paying tax on it. We can perhaps have the ethical debate about football clubs avoiding tax (legally of course) when you and I have to pay ours, another day.

Any response to my first paragraph of that post? As unless I'm mistaken you were implying that Kat had used up nearly all their credit.

I don't know how any Saints fan could think that tbh.

I think that about their talent acquisition competency. I can't look at this team and feel like "Yeah, we'll be fine" like I have in past seasons. Even when I disagreed with something, it was not anything major, and I was happy to give Reed the benefit of the doubt for the most part.

I don't feel that way this season. My misgivings are such that I think it's possible this does not work out.

Having said that, I don't think we're going to crash and burn necessarily either. I guess I would say that by no means do I distrust them. I just don't implicitly trust them anymore. Reed has been downgraded from "genius" to "regular guy" I guess is the best way to put it. We'll have to see how it works out.

As far larger fiscal/football/long-term policy, I still trust KL.

I don't know why we took that loan from Vibrac. I assume that is what you are referring to with Cortese going rogue. But it was a 20m loan, and KL put 20m in to pay it off. So the club owes her now, instead of Vibrac. That was a considerable investment from her, IMO.

Vibrac loans are sketchy and a sign that you are overleveraged, so KL stepped in and fixed the situation. But I don't think she should be supplying the club with all of its cash needs. She's trying to run the club as an independent business. As long as the debt ratio is within limits and we aren't going to football loan sharks, loans are a normal part of business.

You can love a club all you like, but why on earth *wouldn't* you try and run it as a viable, independent business. The other route and it's an expensive hobby/madness.

(Not directing that at you ISIRTP, just the thought being put out).
