Southampton. Won't be letting Isgrove go now. New coach likes him. [HASHTAG]#moveon[/HASHTAG]
Hmmm.
So this season we've lost 3, signed 3. But have lost Juanmi/Caulker/Ramirez from last season's depth.Yep. We signed more depth last year ... Juanmi wasn't really in a position we needed to recruit. Ditto Romeu (Clasie had already been signed to replace Morgan). Martina was originally signed as a squad utility player. Caulker was originally signed to add squad depth for Europa (before Gardos got injured). Ramirez came back into the fold to aid the Europa campaign.
We only lost 3 players (Clyne, Morgan, Toby) and signed 6. Add into the fold Ramirez back and an added defender in Caulker, that's 5 players up on "senior" players from the season before.
I thought that ... not sure where he'd fit into our diamond, as I just can't see him playing as a No10 or a ST (a la Redmond)

But have added Pied (injured). Macarthy is replacement for Stek.
I'm slightly disappointed. Without meaning to be negative, I feel like this is the first window in a few years that we have gone backwards, but we also have added Europa league games. Loads of pressure on Boufal and Hojbjerg
We've lost Juanmi, Mane, Pelle and Wanyama yes? We've signed Redmond (Juanmi), Hjoberg (Vic), Boufal (Mane), McCarthy (Stek). Plus regained Gardos (Caulker) from injury. We've replaced players, and we have a squad of 24. I'm content with that. Plus Stephens, McQueen & Hesketh seem to be in the picture as well.
Really, we've only lost Ramirez from last season (and he spent half the season out on loan anyway) and not replaced them. Hesketh would do the same job as he did last year, for example!
The squad size, for me, isn't an issue.
It felt like we'd gone backwards when we lost Lambert, Lovren, Lallana and Chambers. Turned out we hadn't. We march on.
I think some youngsters will get games in the other cups.
So we've effectively replaced the players lost, but replaced the depth from last season with youth, with a generous profit in transfers. You can see why some fans want another addition. We've lost Juanmi, Mane, Pelle and Wanyama yes? We've signed Redmond (Juanmi), Hjoberg (Vic), Boufal (Mane), McCarthy (Stek). How very dare you! The team are about to crack the allotrope of carbon formation just in time for us to unleash the beast Boufal on an unsuspecting league. We'll go one better than Leicester by actually winning it from behind whilst also dishing out some legendary European tonkings courtesy of the unknown and (before today) unlinked striker that we are about to break our transfer record for again. We'll actually win the league and the Europa League making us the first team in history to be able to field two teams in the UCL next year. Oh, and I think you'll find that Liverpool are like us..... very, very much like us these days!It is unlikely that we will be successful in both the league and the Europa and is also unlikely that we will qualify for Europe next season by league position or the Europa. We will be like Liverpool....but probably without getting to the final. All the top clubs will up their game and finish in their usual positions IMO. So people should be prepared for that...I'm hoping for top 8 and getting past the group stage in the Europa....that would be a good season. I don't believe one season like that will lead to inevitable decline. We are a good, well run team....some seasons will be good (like last season), an occasional one may be very good, and some will be mid-table. That is the way for all teams. The important thing is to keep going, maintain standards and one day, one day.....
We've replaced Mane with Boufal, Pelle with a coming back Jay and Austin as he was his direcr replacement last January. Wanyama with Bhojberg and added Redmond Pied. I think we have had a good summer.
Could also argue that Rodriguez and Austin (if they both stay fit) are like new signings since we didn't have the option to play them much last season. Although whether they stay fit is a big question.
Glad to see some people happy with the window. You guys must be easily pleased on Christmas morning!
The sad thing is most of our team certainly is good enough - for 4-2-3-1...
