I'd like us to get Wilshere just to see Ides reaction! :)

Can someone explain why they think Romeu isn't the right kind of DM for a Diamond?

Because I think Romeu's job is pretty much the same as it was... except he has an extra midfielder to help him out. Which is why I've been disappointed with his performance as in my mind, he should be the guy benefiting the most. He has an extra MC to pass to and way more hipster triangles he's now part of.

I look at it like this: Would you rather have Romeu, Clasie, and Davis in your central midfield (4-2-3-1).. or Romeu, Clasie, HOJBJERG, and Davis? I will take the extra player. Especially if the extra player is extra awesome, which Hojbjerg is. It's not 4-2 vs 4-1 in the back two lines, it's really more like 4-2 vs 4-3.

Granted, we haven't actually used Romeu, Clasie, Hojbjerg, Davis as the diamond. But I'm just saying... we could.

I don't think he was 4th choice when fit. When he came on at Old Trafford, was Maya injured?

I think each were preferred on different side, not 100% though

Looking forward to Gardos regaining his fitness and showing what he can do. I think he looked very capable in the few game he played before.

I've been a bit baffled that Clasie hasn't been involved more.

Come on LTL! We are far too good for him. IMO he is a bog-standard Premiership/Championship player at the moment and that looks like continuing. Maybe Stoke, but then is he good enough for the likes of Stoke, Watford or even Bournemouth? Maybe Sunderland as they like to sign "burros."

It's a pity Saints didn't try for Abraham who is notching up the goals for Bristol City, a la Cole, who didn't turn out too badly in the end.

And he's better than what we have. I would take him in a second.

    Imagine he went to Spurs.

Koeman's man maybe? I know he impressed you, not sure I ever saw what you saw in the guy.

Jack Wilshire is a sublime talent. If he can stay fit and get games he'll be a class act for someone. He does come with baggage though - sort of a latter day Charlie George.

Quite funny how no one seems to rate Wilshere, yet they are happy with a midfield containing JWP, Clasie, Davis & Romeu....

You can bet any money if Wilshere was a Saints player he'd be considered the best English midfielder alive (by Saints fans).

I don't know that it has yet been proven, that Romeu isn't suitable in that role.

Just my opinion, but a sole DM has to be extremely disciplined, with regards to positioning, and has so many more decisions to make, than a DM with another DM alongside him, and, again just my opinion, he sets the tone/balance of the team.

I said the other day that , IMO, VVD would make a perfect DM, in this specific role, because of his qualities as a footballer, his athleticism and his understanding, from a CB's perspective, as to where the DM should be playing. Not everyone would agree with that, but I would certainly like to see it trialed.

I agree. It's not Romeu's passing that worries me, it's his sharpness in the tackle and turning circle (when he gets beaten) that fills me with dread. Compare him to Kante who was just impossible to shake off and, in the extremely rare event that you could, he would be back snapping at your heels in seconds.
