The Scotsman was asking about whether fans would begrudge Jose the move after being here for so long.....no need to find out....he's staying In answer to his question, the logical, fair-minded normal part of my brain would say: ''Go Jose with our blessing. You deserve this.'' However, the football fan side of my brain would be screaming abuse and wishing hell and damnation on his treacherous head. Fortunately, Jose will not have to see my ugly side.
Jose doesn't come out squeaky clean if like you said he was 80-20 to leave, but certainly for realising the error of his ways
Forgive and forget..... ..... Is the rule of they stay. If they leave, they're lying, bastard, traitors!
It would have made a huge amount of career sense for him to leave for a big payday. Personally I don't blame him at all for considering it, footballers have short careers and it would have given him long term stability. I wonder what kept him here - I believe he was doing his coaching badges along with SKD - maybe we've offered him a "pathway to the backroom" so he knows he'll still have a stable future in three years time.
Not many men can turn down the "pathway to the backroom"..... . ..... Apologies, it's the heat and humidity.
It means nothing, but I have zero problem with how Jose has acted publicly. Other than that trouble maker Beefy , I would have no idea about there ever being a potential problem between player and club.
Upon returning from winning the euro's, you'd think any self respecting player at a club he likes/loves would want to let his faithful following, perhaps join in with a little celebration. Instead, by matter of silence he manages to encourage masses of unwanted speculation, that the new to the EPL french gaffer can ill afford. I stand by my twat comment, I just hope he doesn't now play like a bag of **** making this an opportunity lost.
I'm glad he is staying, really really stoked. It's a strange one. Where others leave and I want them to fail Jose was one of those that I would have wanted to succeed had he left just to prove all those doubters wrong. The ones that said he wasn't good enough for them, that he wasn't worth the money etc. I'm happy that he won't be in that position now though and look forward to a few? more years of service from a top player.
The manager has said he's staying? Going by past experience that means he'll be at Old Trafford within days!
Considering he is the captain of Southampton, not giving so much as a short interview since he returned from the Euros isn't on in my opinion. The fact that he actually won the Euros makes it even worse when I imagine how his return could have went. Some sort of presentation for him and Cedric, interviews, a standing ovation from the fans and the rest of the team. It should have been an occasion to be celebrated but instead a shadow has been cast over Fonte and to an extent the club because of this Man United bullshit- helped in no small part by his silence.
I watched Puel's presser earlier when it was live and heard everything he said and I'm still not 100% certain that Fonte will remain. I'm not sure if I'm alone in this? A lot can happen in a few days, Southampton fans know this better than anybody!
