About time Saints just pay what is needed to get a deal done, sometimes we do seem to be easy push over in bidding wars. Im pleased, shame he's got a slight knock, but still pleased.
Well thought out post... Not sure what evidence that is based upon, re bidding wars. I don't watch Eastenders.
Well not so much bidding wars but there's been times when we have been interested in players but won't pursue because a club has asked to much. What I'm saying is, much like other top clubs in the league you have to spend and sometimes over the odds to get what you want if you wish to progress.
Well, isn't that his point, really? That we don't bother if there is a bidding war? We don't tend to go in hard and go for the win. We play sneaky instead. So, while you and BTK may laugh, he's not far wrong.
Probably. Part of the reason getting Stanciu as well would be a good idea...between the injury and AFCON, Boufal is going miss a fair chunk of time.
Actually I'd say we prefer to make decisions based on our valuations of players rather than just throw money at a situation. I'd rather than than the alternative.
Didn't say that, but we will unlikely progress any further if we carry on doing the the same as what we have been.
Also sneaky? Not sure about that. We pay what we believe a player is worth, but won't overpay. Sounds sensible.
who is laughing? What is wrong with our model. We are Southampton, not Man U or Chelsea Our model, works for,us, where we identify targets to play the way we want, some you win, some you don't. Do you think others didn't try to,get Pogba, or are Real now pussies when it comes to transfers...
It would appear in this case that we did something a bit different: we reevaluated our valuation. Which, given that the market has changed rather drastically, was probably a good decision.
As a general rule, I agree with you, fats, but this is a difficult window and time is running out. If we want this man, there is no point losing him for the odd million. Especially as we usually make a profit on transfers anyway. Each place in the PL is worth a sizeable sum....as is a decent cup run. Sometimes you have to be flexible. Someone said recently that the problem with Nicola is that he didn't know how to lose a battle in order to win a war....this could be a case in point for Les.
