Either the transfer kitty is simply not big enough to go after the players that Puel considers will strengthen us (Koeman's departure & remarks could back up that theory)

Or...

Puel isn't quite the manager the club expected... unless they expected one who had low expectations. I expect.

Or...

The "Black Box" is exactly what every other club does but without a fancy title. They have caught up and Saints are struggling at both identifying players and persuading them to join us.

Or...

Les Reed's bonus is based more on net spend than league position

Or...

Something else, or a combination of the above. Or none of it.

Sorry Magic, I cant agree witht he 'priced out of the UK market'.

There is no evidence whatsoever of this, and you may be basing this on the not spending £32m on Benteke, or similar.

We historically buy in the good talent, mature them and sell 'em on. Benteke doesnt fit that bracket (I know you havent suggested him) he is highly unlikely to make money for Palace on his next move.

We are still likely to go for young talent, either English or based in the UK, just like young Redmond. Who we purchased from the UK market.

You are right that there is no evidence for my feelings and it is hopefully just an incorrect suspicion I have. I wasn't suggesting signing Benteke as he obviously doesn't fit our model, but we have signed "flops" from the bigger teams before (Bertrand and Romeu domestically spring to mind) so we may go down this route again. Just from the few rumours we have to go on it looks more like we are looking abroad, which there is nothing wrong with, just that we have a higher hit and miss ratio when shopping overseas.

Despite turning off automatic updates, the computers housing the Black Box installed Windows 10 anyway, and the program is having compatibility issues. An individual has been waiting on hold with Microsoft tech support since early June; once that resolves, we will spend billions.

Sorry, so you did. But seriously, you don't think Hojbjerg is going to be very very good???

I'm leaving this thread now as it is starting to get a bit SaintsWebby (Not you SM)

No i was just saying that all it takes is one window to undo a fair bit of good work, and just thought I would use this window as an example. It is obviously far too early to be writing off Hojbjerg or Redmond

If that's his opinion then why shouldn't he express it.

Too often on this forum people are criticised for being negative. You may not agree with it but you can disagree with certain actions by the club and then express that. Not having a go at you Crusti, this is more of a general observation of the forum.

Let's not forget a negative point of view is an opinion, same as a positive point of view. Let's just except people's right to that opinion no matter what.

But the rumour are just that - rumours!

If they are rumours, it is highly likely they are not true so you cant base suspicions based on hearsay that we may be looking at the foreign market. Add to that we are likely to look abroad as there is a far bigger talewnt pool than that of just the UK market, it is reasonable to say we are likely to but from abroad, but you cant base that we will on the fact the rumours are us looking there...

The Contract Extensions are window dressing. All it really guarantees is that the player will be with us from August to January. If Man City offered Saints £25m for Forster in January, he'd go. Guarantee it. Same with Tadic, Long, Bertrand etc. Yes, the contract will increase the price we get, but not that significantly. Saints know this, players & their agents know this, other clubs know this... some fans seem to live in a dream world expecting a player signing a 4 year deal to still be here in 2020.

*scratches head*

Why are people melting down now? Jay is irrelevant, with the best will in the world, and Jose is replaceable.

If you're going to melt down, do it on September 1st if we haven't signed anyone....which we will.

Who is melting down?

I thought this was a forum to comment, debate and create...

No doubt we will. Getting two quality attacking players who fit our new scheme, a top CB and another young CB (if we were after one before Fonte's likely departure, and we should be) in eight days is something of an ask though.
