Really don't see us (United) as bidding for him, yes he is a superb CH but, Jose said he wanted 4 players he has got them all, Smalling is a very good CH and Bailly looks the part with Blind as a very good back up (plus Jones and Big Tim).
I think our name is being used by a twat of an agent to get a better deal.

Sounds as though his wife needs to give him a good talking to and a clip round the ear!

His wife is probably as legit as his source.

Although at this point, he would probably do well to just go full Penthouse forum.

Dear Sotonians,

I never thought it would happen to me, but the other day I was washing my car as I usually do, wearing chamois shorts and no top, when I realized my car was parked in a sorority parking lot even though that doesn't make any sense in the UK....

After inviting me to their room in the sorority house which also really doesn't make any sense... I realized that in addition to studying clinical psychology and astrophysics and part-time bikini modeling, the blonde with the gigantic rack was actually an advance scout for Southampton, while her roommate was Saints' sports psychologist....

"We will sign a right-footed full international CB who has been compared VVD" she teased. "Unless his club refuses to let him go, and we sign a left-sided attacking midfielder instead" her roommate responded, giving her a friendly swat with the pillow. "But the coaching staff don't rate him!" she replied. "Let's just make out!"

I'd rather be a club legend like MLT than a twaty millionaire like.......insert any name here. Still believe in dreams.

And Matty's hardly skint himself. About the only regret he could possibly have is not having many medals. Fonte already beats him there.

Anyway, I'll allow him a wobble, so long as he settles in again and does what's expected of him in a Saints shirt. Even Matty nearly went to spurs.

I do think it is related to the upheaval with Koeman leaving while Jose was away. I can imagine coming back from a truly great high and looking forward to a Europa league season compared badly with coming back to more uncertainty...that could be deflating.

Still having difficulty in believing he wants to go.........He has found fame if not fortune with the Saints......Saints are offering him that Fortune I gather.........Once again it would appear you have an agent who thinks he knows better where a players future lies. Fonte is a good player but he is not a united player or the right age. I am convinced if he went there he would be no better than a bit player, mainly on the bench.
If he keeps himself fit he will have a longer international career staying at Saints as well as a longer possible playing career in the top flight. IMO it would be madness for him to go.
Just another agent trying to make a few million....................Perhaps it is time that the football authorities put a cap on what an agent can charge Then perhaps you would not get agents being so ready to unsteady players as there wouldn't be so many of them!!
Daft I know but sometimes I would like to put them up against the wall and shoot the lot of them.........they are a bloody nuisance.

As for the story about the player having his head in the clouds and being unable to concentrate on the job in hand - cobblers. Never yet heard of a player unable to play due to elation.

There's nothing here but speculation. Despite having said the same thing many times recently before being proved wrong, I don't see the point in worrying about unsubstantiated rumours.

Maybe "head in the clouds" meant "still pissed" from the celebrations <laugh>

I'd love Fonte to stay, he has been a great player and leader for us through the years. However if he wants to leave so be it. We will then need to go out and sign a new younger CB, of which I'm sure we already have targets.
I then believe that VVD now has the stature to step up and be the leader at the back.

My usual way of acquiring Saints info, is me texting my source to ask if there's anything new they can tell me yet. Occasionally, it works the other way, and they call me to volunteer it without prompting. As happened whilst I was at the beach this evening. That usually means it is something the Club themselves actively wants out there, unofficial like, via random looney "bullshitters" like yours truly. ;) No blowback that way. So probably take it in that vein.

My friend said that with a lot of rumours and uncertainty circulating around Jose Fonte in the last few days, they wanted to clarify a few things. Firstly, there has been NO official bid from Everton. Doesn't know where that one came from. As of the last they knew this evening -- there has also been NO official bid from Utd, or anyone else either. It is all coming from the Agent Mendes

Secondly, about Jose himself: he arrived back from winning the European Championship understandably "with his head in the clouds" -- [At least it wasn't in Liverpool] ;) -- and it "still hasn't re-emerged yet".

He was offered a renegotiated contract which was effectively simply a pay rise to make him the highest earner at the Club, with an optional one year extention at the Club's discretion to his current deal, which expires in 2018. He indicated he would be delighted to extend, "sort it out with my agent", and went off on his extended post-Euro's holiday.

When he arrived back at the Club, it was clear that he was having some mental difficulties in adjusting. Naturally, having just become a European Champion, he was still floating on cloud nine -- but it seems to have all gone to his head. And stayed there.

His recent instagram post being a great example of his current mindset. He is "love-struck" with his own success, and can't stop thinking about it. There is no "falling out" -- but Jose has completely lost his focus. It was much more for this reason that he did not start the last game, rather than fitness issues. He is not in the right frame of mind to Captain the team right now, and you can't put the captain out there, without wearing the armband.

We were very confident until a few days ago that Jose would sign his new deal, but the agent has been playing games. Using so called "interest" [real or imagined] from "big clubs" to increase Fonte's value and secure a better deal, for both Jose and Agent Mendes himself.

This has further destabilised Jose's frame of mind. Fonte has NOT told the Club he wants to leave -- and has indeed repeatedly said himself he is very happy at the Club.

Essentially, Jose's International success has screwed with his mind, and he is simply not mentally focussed sufficiently to play. We are hopeful that it is a short-term blip, that he'll simply snap out of -- this being so completely out of character for Jose, who is usually the consummate model professional. Club will do everything in our power keep him, sort his head out, and finalise his yet another new contract.

At present, there is no problem in that regard with Fonte acting like a knob or anything, but if any serious bids do arrive, no-one knows exactly how he will react. Club are adamant that he must stay, but if he does kick off about it, and we get another exorbitant offer for a 32 year old defender, then we'll have to wait and see what happens.

At this point, as far as we are concerned -- he will be a Saint when the window closes. We're very hopeful he'll get his head sorted out soon, and sign the new deal, which was pretty much done until this "supposed interest" arrived to bump up the figures being asked for by Jose's agent to sign.

That's about all I have for now. Sorry it is not exactly all "great news" to share, but my source felt it was something that needed to be clarified. So as always, I pass it on in good faith. "Bullshit" or otherwise.

International success has screwed with his mind? Give me a break. I've never heard of anything quite so utterly ridiculous.

We have a few expressions in Glasgow to cover what I think of this statement:

1. Haud yer weesht and gees peace - I say old chap, I believe that you may be talking ****e so how's about shutting up?
2. He's a pure fanny geeing it laldy - That gentlemen seems to really like the sound of his own voice.
3. He's no but a fuddnutt chatting mince - I suspect that this fellow is using the incorrect orifice for verbal communication.

I believe all three are appropriate here. Just choose your order.
