So clubs who played by the rules would enter a series of low bids incrementally increasing until the release clause was triggered? That is incredibly inefficient. It's also a waste of time if the player and potential buying club can't indicate some ballpark agreement on terms.
Being able to talk to the player first is much more sensible.

No, they would enquire of the asking price, possibly put in an opening bid, and the club would let them know how much it would take to sell the player. A club with half-decent management sets the release clause far enough above a player's worth to ward off clubs, without making the player feel like he's locked into that club for the length of his deal.

Check out any of the big moves, the release clauses are well known while bidding is ongoing. Higuain for instance, I believe Arsenal and others tried to bid less than the release clause but were told they would have to meet the full release clause.

i carnt believe this is still going on :emoticon-0140-rofl:

Bet Hudds is delighted he signed his extension now, citing Brucey being a key reason for doing so......we'll be hearing about his release clause next...........

Would we have tried to sign them if they hadn't played for us already? I very much doubt it. Would they have signed if Bruce had left?

That wasn't my point to begin with so no idea what you're on about.

We have the money to sign these players, we have the capacity to give them extra wages. The owners are clearly quite happy to commit wages for Diame in a new deal, so bizarre they won't bring in new players.
