To be fair, Nico's generally so far below the max speed of the car that a small lift is probably more than enough.

You are right. Problem is the driver doesn't necessarily know why the yellows are being waved. So he could be putting marshals lives at risk.
It's not Nico's fault, it's the way the FIA have told the drivers how to interpret what they are supposed to do under waved yellows. The stewards actions this time have further confirmed that all you need to do is show via data you lifted and that is good enough to protect marshals and other drivers!
I really hope Jules's family take the FIA to the cleaners to force them to improve safety.

Just managed to watch sky sports analysis on pole lap. Is Rosberg the luckiest driver ever? After the Jules incident you'd think they'd clamp down on it. Honestly it's an absolute disgrace. The rule is prepare to stop. He at no point looks prepared to stop. Ludicrous!

Rosberg's so called lift off through the double yellows was equivalent to 0.1 sec. So how do the stewardship equate that to lifting off sufficiently for a double yellow if you know it means you have to be ready to stop?

Think Rosberg got a little lucky with that ruling, perhaps saved for the good of the spectacle. It makes things trickier in the long run though as you can't expect consistency when you essentially let full throttle count as a lift.

Who knows, Rosberg may have a overnight issue and this will all become redundant anyway <laugh>

The more things change the more things stay the same...

With all that water the drivers have loads of fresh rubber to use. Not really heard much about the ideal strategy though, guess it depends on how hot it gets.

There's some drama over a bizarre loophole in the 107% rule.

Everyone knows that the rule allows for exceptions based on circumstance (like the weather today), but the letter of the law says that in the case of these exceptions the driver will be allowed to start at the back of the grid.

This is an issue because quite a lot of drivers missed the 107% in Q1 and still made it to Q2. All of them, technically, require and exception to be allowed to start and therefore should be sent to the back of the grid. This includes both Red Bull drivers.

If there's any common sense the stewards will just ignore it, but this is F1.

Seems like, once again, FIA/Stewards are making the rules up as they go. The cars that did not make Q2 will have to use their P3 times (coincidentally no change to Q1 grid positions). Those that did make Q2 they are allowed to keep the times they achieved in Q2 an Q3 due to exceptional circumstances in quai!!!
Why not just say due to exceptional circumstances in quali all drivers keep their times? That way same rule for all not 1 rule for some another rule for the others!
Stupid decision by FIA/Stewards again making the rules look like a joke.

Getting quite bored with sky hamikton fan club.

They are so afraid of alienating the fan boys they lose all objectivity.

Brundle just now on rosberg. Very mealy mouthed. You coyld tell he didnt want to admit rosberg probably got it right.

They then turn on alonso and accuse him of deliberately spinning it to keep 7th... basically giving the fan boys the excide why lewis is only 2nd.

Like.... just call the thing down the middle and let it fall where it falls. Sure lewis is the british driver on the british tv but call the thing like it is.

This looks primed for an alternative strategy here - look out for Verstappen being sent longer one way or the other.

Wonder if Hamilton is doing the "here, have some dirty air to help your tyres and cooling" tactic. Or this is all he's got.

I think he may just be doing a "what I have to, to keep the gap". He'll likely have engine penalties in mind. We'll have to see though.
