No at Bayern he scored 113 goals in 174 games. His stats are actually pretty close to being 'elite'. Despite that he has'nt really got the praise he deserves. (except in Germany where they appreciate those kinds of crafty strikers) I don't think Gomez would be a backup. I think he's a FAR better finisher than Giroud and would more than likely start plenty of games. He wouldn't be my first choice. But I would be pleased if we signed him because he is simply better than what we already have.
Higuain is apparently up for a move to Arsenal and Napoli have basically ruled out selling him to Juve. £78m is an obscene amount of cash though.
It would make sense signing Gomez then as well and we'd have a pretty decent strike force, and depth once Welbeck comes back (a decent 3rd choice). But it's a huge amount of money, even though he's just had a very good season for Napoli. Still, what else are we going to do with the money?
Done deal.. more to come please! http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/20160722/arsenal-agree-deal-to-sign-rob-holding
As happy about this as I am about the arsenal careers of Denilson, Fran Merida, Inamoto, Nordveidt and Miyachi
Yes I saw this and surely it can't be right. Wenger must know what he needs for us to be competitive this coming season and we're still badly short in one or two key positions
He must surely know this? Eh? Why would he suddenly know this now when he hasn't the past ten seasons?
Also only just seen that Goetze moved for £18m back to Dortmund. Crazy when you think how much Liverpool have spent on Wijnaldum and Mane (£60m for the pair?)! I would have taken Goetze for that much
2009–10 Apps 45 Goals 14 2010–11 Apps 45 Goals 39 2011–12 Apps 52 Goals 41 2012–13 Apps 32 Goals 19 Since when does HALF of 4 = 1?? Are you going to ignore the fact he has a vastly superior Goal record to Giroud?
Goolies... I hadn't quite checked that fourth Bayern season quite carefully enough, you're correct. But let's look at league goals only please. Including other competition goals can make many players look better goalscorers than they really are. But yeah in that 4th bayern season still 11 in 21 which just about scrapes through your criteria. But not good enough for Bayern who promptly got rid. In his last three seasons in competitive league football (ie discounting Turkish football because my gran could score 30 a season there) Gomez has 18 goals in 50 league games. In the last three seasons of competitive league football for Giroud, he has 46 goals in 101 league games. And you're going to say Gomez is the better option for us? There is no evidence whatsoever that Gomez would be a useful addition to our squad or that he is would score more goals right now than Giroud would. He once was a good striker. Now he's quite old, quite past it and merely quite good, banging in goals against dentists and bricklayers in the Turkish league. Which probably makes him a perfect Wenger season long loan signing on deadline day for us to find out on September 2nd that he has anterior cruciate ligament damage and is out for the season.
Well that confirms Pogba is heading for Man U for a huge 100m deal. We are still dragging our heals looking for reinforcements when everyone else is strengthening. Same old story each and every summer transfer window, whether we have money or not.
I am amused at the fact that Manure are allegedly forking out a record £100m (wtf?!) for a player they originally had on their books and let go for free. Madness.
Mahrez to Arsenal rumours resurfacing http://metro.co.uk/2016/07/23/leice...ad-mahrez-agrees-to-sign-for-arsenal-6023907/ Ranieri dismissed speculation linking Mahrez with a move away from the King Power Stadium last week, saying: ‘It is over, the market is closed here. Mahrez wants to stay.’ However, reports in the French edition of Eurosport claim that Ranieri’s comments were merely a ploy to pressurise the 25-year-old Algerian into signing a new contract having heard of Arsenal’s interest. The same report claims that Mahrez’s mind remains unchanged and, when Arsenal submit their official bid of £41million, he will leave the Premier League champions to join the north London club.
