No at Bayern he scored 113 goals in 174 games. His stats are actually pretty close to being 'elite'. Despite that he has'nt really got the praise he deserves. (except in Germany where they appreciate those kinds of crafty strikers)No he hasn't. He has managed 1-in-2 in only 6 seasons out of the 11 that he's played top flight football and not in a proper league since 2011/12. He could only manage 1-in-2 in two of the four seasons he had at Bayern. His stats scream quite good but not elite. And our squad is full of that already. And precisely one of the reasons we regularly don't challenge the big boys. Signing him will be the summer 2016 equivalent of our summer 2014 signing of Welbeck. Pointless. Adds nothing.
I don't think Gomez would be a backup. I think he's a FAR better finisher than Giroud and would more than likely start plenty of games. He wouldn't be a decent addition at all. We already have Welbeck and Giroud who can play up front. We only play one striker. So why would we buy a backup striker who's sole purpose would be to compete with our backup strikers? So we have three not good enough forwards competing with each other to be our first choice not good enough striker? Awesome. Can't wait.
He wouldn't be my first choice. But I would be pleased if we signed him because he is simply better than what we already have.
