He's a very good coach, but he'd be pretty much an unknown in regards to his assessment of transfer targets, whether he could attract them and what not. He'd have way more money than he's ever had so that's why I'd be apprehensive. If we still had the DoF set up I could be swayed. Now all that's been scrapped and the new gaffer will be in charge of recruitment too I'm not sure.

We'll probably go back to the DoF way of things as it was so successful, wasn't it.... :-) remember this is Sunderland.

Argh. Hate that term with a passion. I refuse to believe it has to be this way. I won't bow down and accept negativity is an inevitable. Never. One day our club will surprise us all. I've still got bags of hope for the future. Just none in the not so distant future.

I wouldn't hold it against Sam at all for wamting to chase his ultimate ambition.

If he doesn't get it he'll still do a great job for us.

Agree totally. If he doesn't get it then I'm sure he'll be more determined to prove the FA wrong by being successful with us. You can't blame the bloke for accepting an interview for a Job that he has yearned for, for many years. If he goes Good luck from me

I'm the eternal optimist. However i do enjoy the drama to be honest, makes life a little more interesting... However it would nice to get to calm waters now and again rather than being forever in a storm

Thought we had it until I saw England at the Euros. I was convinced England was going out, I was convinced Woy would lose his job and I was convinced they'd come for Sam, I just knew for some reason. Look at my tweet from after the England match. I knew they were coming for him.

Still believe we'll get that sustained spell. Just not anytime soon. To think as much as expected this I still won't utter those words, but it has knocked the stuffing out of me.

I'm not sure what to think at the moment. It's obvious if nothing had happened we'd all be happy and excited about the new season ahead, the usual optimism and expectations.
But something has happened, there is a very real chance Sam will go; so we look at it like this -

If he stays - Brilliant we continue as nothing had happened ; catch up on transfer deals that may be on hold awaiting the outcome; have a good solid pre-season.
If he goes - accept it as it's all we can do, then back to my point above be excited about the new season ahead, the usual optimism and expectations.

Every cloud has a silver lining. - we could end up with a big manager with a big rep - that could attract big names (I can dream)
We end up with a donkey so we have the usual escape act to enjoy again (no sarcasm here at all)

Whatever happens we will all continue to back the lads in our usual passionate way.

Just a thought - bring back Monkey Head :-) <doh>

So...... will it be today or tomorrow we hear who's got the job?

I have a feeling we'll know before Saturday.

"Sam won't get it. He isn't a yes man."

<doh>
It was said earlier that he is willing to follow the FA blueprint, whatever the **** that is?
If that is true then to get the England job he will be turning from his own man to being a yes man, just like all those before him.
Again, if that is the case he wont wok for England because he will be played like a puppet.

They probably have chefs to do that sort of thing mate, he'll be strictly team affairs.
