Urgh!

Why do we keep signing a 3rd GK, never playing him, then releasing him on a free, then signing another. Third choice GK is the last position we need filling!

That probably spells the departure of Jake "hi there, goodbye there" Kean if true.

I would say that McGovern would offer a more creditable challenge to Dekkers as back up than Kean ever did so I don't see that much wrong in this.

Building from the back - a quality CB next eh ? <whistle>

Are you basing this on that Germany game?
I am basing my opinion after watching Ruddy concede so many terrible goals and stupid mistakes for the last 3 seasons and Rudd was no better.
How many times did you see
Shots 3
On target 2
Goals conceded 2 last season ?.
Ruddy is a shadow of the player that broke into the England squad many moons ago.
He is a massive liability.

That doesn't prove this GK is any better, from his 1 good game though.

In fairness, I saw a few of Northern Ireland's games and McGovern acquitted himself well in each, whether I would want him as number 1 is another matter. Maybe Ruddy will move on and McGovern will back up Rudd?

I watched all 4 of N Ireland's games and most of their qualifyers because I was Interested in seeing how Lafferty played.
Don't really see what you are moaning about he's 31 knows Neil and played brilliantly for a very average side making amazing saves against the World cup holders along the way .
Could we do with competition in goal ?
Yes.
Would he be a good signing on a free ?.
Yes.

I'm not moaning. I just said I don't think a 4th GK is a priority.

I would Imagine he would want assurances that he would be fighting for top 2 spots .
Northern Ireland conceded just 11 goals in 14 games in qualifying and the finals of Euro 2016 with a very average defense.
Our keepers are all dodgy and we need some fresh blood in that position.

You say he would be 4th choice if we sign him I say our keepers are all dodgy and we need some fresh blood in that position.
Nope. didn't say 4th choice. I said that would make 4 GK in our squad.
Rudd and Ruddy would be fine in the Championship, if we signed any or some decent defenders to play in front of them, any keeper will struggle with our defensive options at the moment. They did enough to get us up twice before.

I changed it after you quoted .
Ruddy was **** and we had to rely on scoring more goals than the other sides to win games as we rarely got a clean sheet.
If we concede a pen it's a nailed on goal .
Something like 10 or 11 pens ZERO saves last season.
Don't remember him saving a pen the season before either.
Then you have the horror show where all of Newcastles goals on target went in .
Liverpool at home West ham flappy hands Man city I can go on forever how utterly **** Ruddy was he has to go

3 clean sheets in 27 games.
Average goals conceded 1.63 a game
Average saves per goal 1.34

So we have to score more than 2 goals a game to stand a chance of winning and pretty much every other shot on target goes in against us with Ruddy in goal.

Sometimes, when apparent negativity = pretty much the truth, it's difficult to argue against.
Not that long ago that Ruddy broke into the England set up, albeit as third choice but hey ho.
I don't think he's done enough in the last two seasons to break into Wroxham reserves. Sorry.

In the Premier League, which we are not in, and with a back 4 in front who can't defend.

I'm not saying he's been good or we should keep him, coz he hasn't been, and we probably shouldn't. I think any keepers stats would be embarrassing with our defenders in the Premiership. Including this 31 year old if he had to play in the Premiership, with that back line, with the squad trained to defending how they have been/if they have been.

Every other shot on target flys past him near enough ,horrible to watch .

I think that 37% punch success is a hugely damning statistic. When Ruddy was at his best, I think it was widely thought that he wasn't the best outright shot stopper, but commanded his box well and made up for that perceived weakness with his all-round play.

Since his injury, his kicking has gone to ****, and he doesn't instil his defence with much confidence, rightly so based on that punch statistic. Failing to claim more than one ball in ten is hardly confidence-inspiring either, particularly given the number of routine catches a keeper gets in a match.

In the Premier League you get punished by the quality of the shooting more than the championship, but I think you see more crosses and a generally more aerial approach in the championship. If he's doing that badly in the air in the Premier League then that's only going to be worse in the championship.
