Yeah I don't see him like that though glp, I'm not sure in the pl he'll be good enough at breaking play up and putting a tackle in, I often think our midfield doesn't get close enough to opponents midfield. I think we could get a better player than Huddlestone to do the donkey work but we'd struggle to find a better player with his passing ability, that's why I'd push him further forward and use his passing ability to supply passes to get Hernandez/forwards playing in and around the penalty area rather than having their backs to goal waiting for the ball to be knocked upto them
Agree to disagree. I think he's playing in his best position at the moment. If we could sign a Charlie Adam and a Wes Hoolahan then we'd have the players comfortable to provide the passing required further forwards. That Hendrick at Derby wouldn't be a bad signing either and if we could get our hands on Will Hughes that would be even better!
Agreed. Probably the best thing about his passing is his ability to effortlessly ping a precise ball 70 yards froms a standstill with either foot. Play him further up the pitch and you take away the opportunity to do just that. Not to mention he's not the most mobile, playing further up off the striker he has to cover the width of the pitch and bomb into the box to support the striker and back out to cover. That's not going to happen the striker would just be left isolated.
Ha ha but the long range passes are going left or right to Elmo or Robertson on or around the halfway line. I think we'd get more out of him if he was 10/15 yards away from the forwards he'd be able to pick little through balls out for Hernandez.
I'd much sooner just splash out on a nifty player who speciale a there. Someone with a bit of skill and trickery to run with the ball through the pitch and take defenders out the game. Maybe make the odd run in to the box and smash in the odd long range shot. Diame is a very good option for that position but we could do with someone to challenge him, I think Diame would be just as good playing further back.
Yeah that'd be nice, I was working on the fact we could get a better defensive midfielder than Tom and cheaper than we could a player like you describe. Let's hope Bruce finds a few bargains
A couple of problems with Huddlestone defensively are giving the ball away/caught in possession, and reckless tackles.
Don't know him but Hughes would be a good shout. With most teams looking overseas and spending big there we should surely be in with a decent chance of getting him. Would cost a bit but his age and potential resale value would make it a good deal.
Just had a quick look and he's got 1 in 3 for PSV and he's only 22 so looks like he can score a goal too and will have lots of improvement in him.
He's really good, would provide us with something a bit different. Not sure what PSV would want though.
