Why are we nervous. We were unsure about Poch and the Board got it right. Player sales caused a meltdown and the Board got it right. Have some ruddy faith. Lets get behind whoever is appointed and enjoy the ride!
It's the choice of assistant/coach that pushed a few over the edge. I can tell you now that nobody knows the true impact of a coach. When Sammy Lee was appointed I and others on here were under whelmed and looked at his time at Bolton and his modest playing career as indicators it was not a great appointment. Well after two great seasons here, I can tell you I still don't know if Sammy Lee is a good coach or not. He seems like an enthusiastic and passionate guy and I enjoy his celebrations on the touch line, but I have no idea the level his impact had on our team. He is clearly competent, but I've been involved in teams that have got good results and not every contribution has been equal or even positive. Dave Watson was part of our successful coaching team, but also part of the terrible England coaching side
Wow! It's all kicked off overnight and because of Eric Black? He's not the head coach, just a coach and has all his coaching badges and a good reputation for coaching. Can't really see the issue. I don't really know anything about Puel apart from what I've read recently, certainly had never heard of him, but while a little nervous (I was equally nervous of Koeman actually), very willing to trust in those that know more than I. It's certainly going to be an interesting few months! Supporting Saints is never dull!! ps my like ratio is now 16%, so please keep working on it Update: Due to my rarely posting and so many of you lovely people liking my post, I am now at 20.6%, so thank you. Makes me feel all warm and snuggly to be liked by so many
I really need to try and stay up later than 10pm, seems all the fun happens on here from 11pm onwards. This is really hard for me to say but i agree with almost everything that fats has said, I am unsure about the appointment but thats purely through a lack of knowledge about the guy, Based on our history i have to beleive that he is the right man for the job abd he will be a success. If he turns out to be a failure then we put it down to experience and go again. Seems pretty simple to me.
Kat : Its amazing you keeping signing and hiring all these successes. How do you do it? Les : (joking) oh I have a magic black box that tells me who to sign (three years later) Kat : I'm not worried about RK leaving! Forget him! We'll just get the black box to tell us who to sign. Les : I was only joki... Kat : Use the magic Black Box or you're fired!
http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/14587447.COMMENT__What_to_expect_from_Puel/?ref=rss Echo article outlining Puel's career and why it has attracted the attention of Saints. Preparing us I guess....though they would need to write it in blood to please some people. Not perhaps a good idea at the end to compare with Mauricio's work in getting Spurs players into the England squad.
Irony with all the Black hate is that Sammy Lee himself is perhaps the best example of an excellent coach who has failed in short stints as a manager. I love Lee but new managers bring in new staff. It happens. I'm pretty pleased we have replaced one highly regarded, experienced coach with premierleague experience with another. Can't we give everyone a little time? We're at risk of turning into the type of club I hate COYS
Wow this thread went crazy over night, it seems - for what it's worth. The more I read about Puel, the more I like him so welcome his appointment. Now I wish they'd just hurry up and announce it!
Two points that seem to exercise people's minds: Black being brought in to work with a foreign manager....Koeman had to work with Sammy Lee. Puel's possible lack of English (don't know if true)....I give you Mauricio and Koeman (both having to take intensive English lessons).
No one really knows how coaches and managers are going to do. Look at Roy Hodgeson, can take Fulham to a European final, but with England, hopeless.
YOUNG and English. If this is the new direction I can get behind that. It will be refreshing to not be linked with every Dutch player known to football. I'll judge the new era on more than league position. Good exciting football. Squad rotation where/when its plainly needed. Some positive signs of the next generation of players coming through. I'd prefer to see this than lump it up front football and squeaky 1-0 results (I generalise terribly at times).
Damn I missed the meltdown! Don't you lot ever sleep? I'm definitely on the give him a chance side. I doubt there is anyone on this forum that has the knowledge the Saints scouts and Les do so why wouldn't I trust them to make a well thought out informed decision? All I have is the internet.
C'mon guys and gals lets not keep having a go at each other because we have different opinions. Especially as non of us actually know who or what the heck is going on. Whoever they bring and in whatever roll they are asked to take lets be true fans and just get behind them. I am sure as the season progresses there is going to be plenty of opportunity to analyse and criticise no matter what happens. For now lets agree to disagree at least until we know the facts. Which means of course that every opinion is then valid without repercussions for having that opinion. We are all Saints fans aren't we so why don't we try to act like a fan......Please.............
That's excellent and a great example of why we should judge people in what they do for us rather than what they've done before.
Someone suggested Black has been tainted for ever after his stint at Villa....so anyone employed at a failing business should never work again. May be true if you were the main reason for a complete failure, but he wasn't and isn't being named as our manager. Have seen some totally over the top despair on other forums...the end of the world has arrived apparently. Firstly, Puel may be a great manager and, secondly, if he isn't, he will be replaced and Saints will move on.
