If Fergie took it, we'd win everything for the next four years then slump when he retires to not even qualifying for Europe under some chap called David Moyes.

I thought that we had to alternate.

English (Sack them 'cos they're ****ing useless).

Foreign (Sack them 'cos they lack passion and linguistic competency).

So surely it's the turn of Johnny Foreigner. Preferably one who speaks no language, has no emotion and is culturally far removed from this blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England.

The Trumper it is then!

The FA need to be brave and bold when picking the next England manager. Forget Southgate, the players and fans will have no faith in him. We need someone likeable who the players will get behind and play for. Howe, Dyche or Hoddle are all great shouts but whoever they bring in, id really like to see someone like Wrighty or Shearer brought in to work alongside the manager, like Neville was under Roy.

Sometimes something a bit left field can do wonders, it certainly cant do much worse than our previous managers.

Everyone's favourite cliche, he lost the players....

BREAKING NEWS: Sky Sources: Senior England players lost faith in Roy Hodgson's decision making during Euro 2016.

apparently Rooney has tweeted in response to suggest its complete bollocks, although sky claiming they got it from trusted sources.

As for who take the mantle following the resignation of the clueless one, Saw Hiddink mentioned earlier, good shout that one and he`s available. Someone mentioned on 5 live earlier about Wenger. As for British managers, none are good enough or ready to make the step up yet IMHO, and please not Southgate.

IF we went English, then Eddie Howe would be my choice. JUst looked at his Wiki review and he has no real blots on his cv - over achieved everywhere, inc burnley even though they finished mid table under him, still good under the circumstances.

A left field idea would be Nigel Pearson. I rate him and so do most of his players. Timing is completely wrong though, as is the fact that the FA would never appoint him - imagine his press conferences after an abject performance.

Nobody mentioned him so far, but could we tempt Ranieri?

Can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
Capello, Ericsson, Keegan, McLaren etc all have decent international experience ......maybe the problem is the players not the manager.

Plenty of 'modest' managers of other countries who do far better with their players. The greatest manager in thre world will struggle when they concede soft goals like last night, and fail to do the basics even semi-competently.

It's a different job to club management.
You don't have to buy players or sort budgets, and you can pick who you want.

It's about the courage to pick the best team, deal with egos and have faith in your ideas.
Too many managers are hampered by inability to get the same players out regularly due to the rush of withdrawals in friendlies, and the cloud of he media hanging over every decision.

It takes a good coach who can resist the outside and get on with it.

Guus Hiddink would be my choice. He doesn't give a **** about reputations and the team will at least look like it's trying

I'm still trying to work out what our tactics were against Iceland

Capello has the best win rate of any English manager ever, it was just poor to watch.

We could maybe have a Ranieri (if Leicester allow him p/t initially) / Frank Lampard (with the right qualifications) dreamteam. Arsenal and W.Ham fans will probably regard it as a nightmare, but it could work.
