Gareth Southgate fits the FA,s bill. Nice guy, diplomatic. and looks good in a suit. Did win a euro comp with the under 21,s this year. If its him and knowing the FA it will be then I would be happy with Shearer in there to sort the attack, and attacking ideas out

Southgate will get it.

He's a yes man like Woy and the easiest move for the FA.

****ing ****s, the lot of them. Have some balls and get someone like Hoddle or Howe, for ****s' sake.

What's David Platt up to these days? I'm not saying I want him - far from it - but I always felt he was being groomed for the role. I did a presser when he was U21 coach and I have never seen a coach / manager lose it as he did. He was ****ing angry with the journos and actually a little bit scary, it was far from the public persona that he has of being calm and a little statesman like.

Hoddle had the best England team I have ever seen in my life. The way he has talked even recently about the FA not backing him over the non-football row I cant see him ever going back.

I don't care whether he was or not, we shouldn't be having to revert to foreign managers! As I said I'd rather we never won a game than have a foreign manager again!

Not disagreeing on having a foreign manager, just pointing out he had the best win ratio of any England manager. The ex TWS mercenary had the worst.

One final point on this **** up of England's, unless I mis heard Roy, he never actually said he was resigning! He said his contract was always up after the Euro's!

It was very much a resignation speech, he was supposed to meet with the FA immediately after the competition to discuss his position, he simply removed the need for that to take place and avoided the inevitable.

Fair enough, was that Venables, ex TWS? If so that was some of the best football I've seen for England '96!

Venables is the most overrated manager in the history of the game. FACT. We only did reasonably well under him cos we were the home nation and when people say the 'best football' they mean the Jockos, Dutch and Germany matches. They forget the bore draw versus Switzerland and the daylight robbery pens win over Spain when they had 2 perfectly legitimate goals disallowed.
