Now I've just been watching a bit of Gaelic Football and I suddenly thought Shane Long was playing. When the players run with the ball and do a foot tap, they look like Long's running style. I wonder if that is how he developed his running style, playing Gaelic football as a kid.
I notice that it isn't just the referees at St Mary's nor just English referees that can't see blatant penalties when Shane Long is involved. There must be something in the rules that says you can kick him as high as you want in the penalty area because against Shane Long it is not a foul.
That was exactly the reason the rule was introduced in the first place, too much play-acting to waste time. If you remember originally a stretcher came on and the player had to go off on it. It was farcical but the idea was to shame the 'acting' player. Of course genuinely injured players should not be penalised. One thing I hate is when a player is clearly able to walk but instead just sits down waiting for the ref to stop the game. Well, they shouldn't in my humble opinion (stop the game that is).
