An exceptionally impressive keeper a couple of seasons ago. Bad injury last season, so you have to wonder about his confidence, which without doubt his defence didn't help. No idea what they'd want for him, but as I asked Kevin Francis, for what role, #1, #2 or #3. Shelling out a lot of brass for a gk would not be my priority. Presumably N/C's relegation & his salary are prompting this move or his desire for PL first string goalie...not so sure myself.

If Krul came in he would be #1.

Perhaps. But how much should we spunk out for him ?

How long does he have left on his deal?

Surely 8-10m would get it done. Keepers don't generally go for heaps.

Don't know the answer to your question. And you may be close to the mark with 8-10 m. I think we need to strengthen elsewhere as a priority.
Definitely a striker, a mid-field playmaker with mobility and aggression (maybe that's 2 players ?). Next would be a mobile centre back and finally a #1 /cover for full-back, wing-back (preferably both sides - one with versatility would be ok). Unless we get a new owner, with a tendency for reckless abandon, I doubt we'll be spending more than 30-35 m on new recruits.
Thus, in my opinion, shelling out on an 8-10 m 'keeper is unlikely and unwise, given we have a couple of competent 'keepers to vie for #1 already.

Agreed, I think other areas are a higher priority.

Krul is about to enter the last year of his deal. 6-7m might get it done.

Ah. Maybe. I'd say 4-5 given recent injury and likely high wage demands.
In retrospect, I may have stretched the idea of 30-35 m expenditure...It may well be 20-25 m max (net) , especially if EA is still in charge.
I think it's gonna be a difficult season again...survival being the only objective. Not sure how SB will view that (well I suppose he will piss off with that constraint of available funds).
edit: Mike Ashley may need some legal fees soon - he may not baulk at 3 million :emoticon-0100-smile

Apparently Dyche is being given 60m to spend. If they have that much we really want to be forking out some cash if we want to stay up.

My worry is if the Allams stay in charge they'll be complacent and think if we go back down we can bounce straight back up again.

I would imagine that Burnley are being quite bullish (assuming it's true), because they (their owners) are in a reasonable financial position with respect to the football club. Their player acquisitions seem to have been far more astute than ours recently ( one of our rejects - Boyd, and one that got away from us - Gray, for example).
Our owners, on the other hand, I believe must be desperate to sell. Old man is not well, even his son must realize he's not cut out for the vagaries of football ownership, and the catastrophic mistakes they have made in alienating their supporters and the attendant bad press must have (should be) making their lives hell. I doubt the Allams want to get into a position of having to be complacent in the relegation scenario you suggest. Let's hope they can get a sales deal they'll accept.
One must hope that the rumours of potential suitors are real, and that they have the savvy to make a (sensible) fist of the job to keep us up, or get adequate help in areas they are unfamiliar with in the business. They should not come in and be profligate in their spending...a recipe for disaster.
If smartly done, being a yo-yo club can be the best way for long term top-flight longevity. WBA picked away at it for years.
Have to admit - I'm worried about the same scenario too.

We've already got three senior keepers, we're not going to sign another one, I'd expect the 'one for the future' we already know about to be only keeper signing.

Not many opportunities to sign someone of krul's calibre so cheaply but you're probably right.

I very much doubt we'll be signing Krul.

We have 3 keepers and about to sign a 4th for the development squad.

OLM literally just said as much. <laugh>

As said, for that price he'd be a bargain, but with three keepers on the books it probably does look like we're set. Can't remember who it was but someone suggested a new GK should be our priority which did seem pretty silly.

Kruls been crocked for ages anyway - which probably means we'll sign him.

Bruce might sign him and play him up front to give Abel a hand

Depends on our ambitions. I would like a new no 1 better than McGregor. At the very least someone who's going to provide a realistic challenge for no1 spot
