It seems Real are really pushing for a big name centreforward this Summer. It seems they have now approached Lewandowski who has also expressed an interest in joining the Spanish giants. This could be a realistic opportunity for Wenger to land a player he has tried to sign on multiple occasions (Benzema).
It does seem crazy that a team with a strikeforce of Bale, Benzena and Ronaldo is trying to squeeze in this lineup another world class striker! I mean it's hardly like they need to improve their strikeforce by selling benzema and bringing in another striker is it?
I know he's 30 now, but I'd still be keen to see if we could sign Mandzukic from Juve. He's basically a massive upgrade on Giroud.
It's built into the expectations of the big Spanish clubs that they will make big signings every couple of years, Often their Chairmen are elected or re-elected on the back of which players they are going to bring in.
Realistically? Benzema is not the type character that fits into Arsenal moral philosophy. He's got underworld connections. Me personally, I'm not a big fan. I'd rather have Lacazette and Morata over Benzema.
I'd take Benzema in a flash. He would fit Wenger's system to a tee and he may well be refreshed under his guardianship. Benzema is proven quality.
I think at this point of Wenger's career, he can't afford to get in "prospects". He needs a ready to go striker of proven quality. Lacazette and Morata are still not proven at the highest level or guaranteed to bang them in. What we want is someone to convert those chances we have been creating and have a good conversion rate, this is something that Benzema will offer out of the wrapper.
Nothing wrong with a few underworld connections mate. Besides hardly worse than having Tory connections is it? The good thing about Benzema is that he is already the finished article.
I still think Cavani would be a quality signing too. Think he was somewhat waisted at PSG used mainly out wide. (even so his goalscoring record was still good)
Pretty much this. Other than Xhaka, Wenger's recent acquisitions have been finished articles - Ozil, Sanchez, Cech and Cazorla. If he had the choice, i think he'd go for Benzema, which would be the right choice. But he is also a man looking for a good deal and may look elsewhere if it's not available or Real is unreasonable. Unfortunately, both strikers are linked to Real and it depends on how we bargain. It may not be as easy as the Ozil transfer as they are not desperately trying to get rid and get funds for a huge transfer (Bale).
It depends, I would imagine Lewandowski is going to cost them 55-60 million. The real question is wether Benzema is willing to play second fiddle or wether he will want to move.
The guy is an elite alpha striker, so I can't see him wanting to play second fiddle to Lewandowski, his ego may not allow it. I wonder if he was good mates with Ozil? It's mouthwatering seeing a potential partnership with him and Ozil again, it was very fruitful last time round, when they were together at Real. On another note, Benzema is being overshadowed by Ronaldo and Bale. It can't be the easy for him being the provider a lot. At Arsenal, he would be the top dog and most service will go through to him.
Yeah it's funny because in reality Benzema just had a much better Season than Bale.(scored 28 in 36 games) But the hype surrounding Ronaldo and Bale has overshadowed his Season. I also feel the same way about Cavani. Shifted outwide and somewhat overlooked because of the great form Ibrahimovic has been in. He still has a better goals to game ratio than most the strikers out there despite not even playing in his best position. I would happily have either at Arsenal.
