So Saints signing up players to long contracts isn't showing ambition? Saints can only do so much to prove themselves, but even then some fans aren't happy. If he goes it simply is he has got a better offer.

If Koeman to Everton happens, the biggest source of my disappointment would be because I placed my trust in Ronald, and because he really seemed like the person in which one's trust can be safely placed.

Seeing out the final year of his deal as a lame duck never made any sense for either side. If Koeman wants more than the board is willing to provide, moving on -- Koeman to a new club, us to a new manager -- is far more rational, spurious conceptions of honour be damned.

I agree with this but that seems like a fairly fundamental issue and doesn't really fit with Les Reed's interview about talks being at the point where agents and lawyers get involved.

Anyway, what will be will be.

It's been said time and time again on here how Koeman is an honourable man. i don't believe he would leave for money after all he has said. So if he does go then the club have decided on a different direction to the one Koeman wanted. Not saying anyone's right or wrong just saying that if we kept our current squad and management then next season could be the best in the clubs history. I believe that's worth spending a few quid to secure.

I'm not saying that he's going. I'm saying that if he were to determine that a longer-term contract is not in the offing, the best move for everyone involved would be for him to move on post haste.

Things change. Maybe he decided he couldn't say no to £6m a year and £100m+ to spend.

But he is pretty much guarenteed that sort of package in the next couple of years from one of the big boys.

You mean would think he would be. No one knows if it will happen. Where Everton wanting him and willing to pay big is a fact.

No, he isn't. Things change very quickly...remember, midseason we were musing about firing him and the board apparently went to him with a list of grievances about his managerial style. We have a down season, and Koeman never gets such an offer again.

An old quote (paraphrased) from Ronald Koeman at PSV before leaving for Valencia; "sometimes a train passes by and you have to get on it"
If he's being offered the sort of deal at Everton that's being rumoured then it could be a case of being too good to turn down.

    Yeah, and I agree completely.

It just seems unlikely to me that he's now prepared to finish his contract but not extend it. You'd think some sort of general agreement on ambition and extending his contract must have been in place before agents and lawyers would get involved in talks and I can't see how the Everton job offer would tempt him to see out his contract but refuse to sign an extension. If he wants that job he has to go now - it's being offered today, not at the end of the season.

So for me either he wants to leave now and isn't quite the ultra-honourable guy people thought or the Everton stuff isn't true.

Strewth guys and Gals.........came on here thinking there was some news...........All I can see is a bloody lot of poor mathematics 2+1=4, 2+2=5, 1+1=3 etc. All it took was for a couple of scousers to come on here spreading their own rumours. If RKs agent is talking to Everton about Southampton I would suggest that is the same as tapping up. Agents were not brought in as a way of getting round the tapping up they have to abide by the rules too.
In either case nothing can or will happen unless Saints say it can. RK said at the very least he would see his contract out unless Saints decided other wise (not exact words true but the meaning was clear) Now why can we not just accept that. What will be will be................

Several ITK people on Evertons forum (Grand Old Team) are saying that Emery turned them down and Koemans told us he wants to go. Apparently the deal will be done and announced pretty quickly.

Is the deal at Everton that good if Emery has turned it down. He's been quite open saying he is looking for a new challenge.
