We held our wedding reception in the Alex back in '88 nice to know Tiny still runs it. His wife 'Neets' did a lovely spread for us, presumably she's still around too BH ?

Pushed the boat out a bit didn't you????? Yes, his ales are always first class.

Anyone else going to sample the delights of the City of Ale trail starting on Thursday???

I'll be smashing it on Saturday and sunday, We have a cunning plan to pick off the Buck inn and Cellar house by car, ditch the car and do the rest. OK so a half in each, but I'm too old to contemplate 45 pints in two days! Hawaiian shirts at the ready! If anyones planning similar watch out for Take5 as the blighter doesn't open for the Sunday. It's a bit rubbish in it's current incarnation but must be done for completness.

Bah!

5000 year old beer recipe.

"But despite cracking the beer’s recipe, the archaeologists admit they can’t say how its flavour would measure up to a modern pint. “I really have no idea,” said Wang. “That is beyond our research methods."

I can tell you that much of the beer produced in China is piss weak froth (Tsing Tsao excepted)

Anyone been to or planning to go to the Real Ale and Cider festival at The Green Dragon in Wymondham? Started on Friday night I think. Goes on till end of play Monday. I'll probably pop down today. Usually pretty damn good.

Sorry, bit random but I just downloaded my photos from Slovenia and had forgotten I took this of a random bar beer menu along the riverside in Ljubljana.
Pretty tidy - and of course, all priced in euros <ok>

City of Ale was bloomin great, got to try a couple of pubs I hadden't visited before and they were generally good, Really liked the Cellar house and leopard. The worst pubs were already known as baduns, Pig and whistle is awful and the angel gardens not much better. Otherwise a fantastic weekend, all 45 visited in the two days and a few more besides.

Bah!

Very impressive General!!!!
Haven't been to the Pig and Whistle or Angel Gardens in years!!!

Bah!

On principle I tend not to drink anything under 4% as it's like making love in a canoe!

Bah!

I'm the opposite, I'm quite happy to spend 85 pence on a 4 pack of Tesco Value bitter, it's only 2% but it has a very good flavour, now that I am grown up, I don't need to get rat-arsed and hung-over, I just enjoy the taste while not putting a strain on the wallet.

If I need a bit of a buzz, there is plenty in the malt cupboard! <cheers>
