Good addition to the City team a strong tackler and sometimes additional striker, just a shame when we sold him, Blackburn Rovers got him I think.

IF my memory serves me well he played for Blackburn against us in a midweek match that was abandoned due to fog. When we replayed the game he played for us.

    Correct he did.

Remember when City signed both Ken Knighton and the now late Billy Baxter. Both were as hard as nails but could also play.

I'm pretty sure the replay was goal-less, Filey - I'll check the Elton bible and get back to you!

23rd Feb 1971 City 0-0 Blackburn - played in front of 23,976 fans ........ not bad for a Tuesday night!

It was a boring 0-0 draw when replayed.

The re-arranged match was 0-0. Knighton didn't play in it, his first game for us was about 1 month later.

What a howl that match was. I was in my last year of my apprenticeship at Eggborough Power Station and in lodgings near Knottingley. A lad took us in his Cortina 1600E. All I remember is being yon side of the cricket pitch, City kicking seven bells out of 'em and any car with a Hull reg getting its lights kicked in after the match. A bit wild west.

Mine neither Spes <doh>. 2-0 up before the match was abandoned, 0-0 in the replay - it's just not fair !
According to my available info if he made his debut against Sheff Utd away on March 9th, 2 weeks after the replayed game.

Everyone goes on about the battle of bramall lane like it was some fantastic time for City. And so it might have been on the night, for a few reasons. I remember it well. But it was also when the wheels started to fall off on the season. Only won a handful of games after that. After the heroics of Bramall Lane, I'm sure I recall Ken Knighton and Bill Baxter then being officially welcomed aboard at home against Oxford the following Saturday???...... We lost, and it was pretty much downhill from there......

Oxford beat us 1-0 win a goal in the 89 min after we had battered them.
Ron Atkinson was playing for Oxford.
Big crowd, touching high 30,000 ( from memory)
Also from memory, we fell away a bit after the heroics at Bramall Lane.
Terry Neill got himself sent off at Luton, or was it QPR, anyhow it cost us the game and I think just about the only game we won after that was v Orient at home, 5-2. Not forgetting it was two points for a win in those days and a couple of defeats in a week left you trailing the front runners.
We finished a disappointing 5th, which was still our highest ever finish playing from Boothferry Park.
