You could be right Syd. I think we'll struggle this season though if our regular left winger is a defensive midfielder.

I wonder how happy Claude Makelele is at PSG with all their new signings...

Vaughan at left wing will have 3 main outcomes.

    1) Vaughan will struggle and become a crowd boo boy (he isn't a winger, has stated he doesnt want to be a winger and consequently will be lousy as a winger)

    2) The lad will become pissed off playing in a position he isn't used to, doesnt want to play in and becoming the brunt of fans frustrations

    3) We will struggle as a unit and look as lop sided as we have done for 3 or 4 years.

Every man and his dog (and their dog to be honest) knew we needed a left winger this summer. If we get to the end of August and one hasn't been brought in, I think for all the good work done by Bruce so far, this will be a massive mistake and one he may well regret. Square pegs in round holes dont work. We are the past masters of this failed strategy for about 30 years now.

1-0 may not be the end of thew world against Burnley but pre season or not, its still very poor with only 2 games now between us and a resurgent Liverpool at Anfield. That was almost a full team out there as well dont forget.

Just seen Bruce interview on Sky Sports news.
He says today was all about building up fitness especially those who were out for long periods last season.
He said it will be completely different in 2 weeks.

    It certainly will ! :)

I do that daily and long it will continue, so long as they infest our board looking for little titbits from the NE big boys table, to cheer up their own miserbale worthless lives. Lol

What else can he say really. We just got beat of a very poor Burnley team that will be Championship mid table at best next season. We are 2 games from running out at Anfield kidda, I' expect more than just a fitness exercise by now? Thats what Germany was for, Burnley, Hartlepool and Hibs is about the team being in a winning ready mentality to face a resurgent Liverpool team in 2 weeks time.

It was a poor result and lets not gloss over the fact.

When I saw the team I expected a good result 'the fitness' excuse is standard tosh. From what I've read we sounded like all foreplay and no follow through. Goals are a big worry for us going into this season.

Fair point I suppose but our goals threat is a huge concern for me. We have Gyan as the only recognised experienced proven striker at the club. Sessegnon is providing much required relief in that department but he has absolutely no previous pedigree as a striker and its a gamble IMO to rely in him scoring 20 goals and replacing Judas.

Won and Wickham are complete unknown quantities and we cannot rely on a kid and a lad who has moved half way around the world 6 weeks ago to suddenly be the goal machines we need.

Creative width on the left and a proven goal scorer were the top 2 priorities this summer. As of today, we have brought in neither. I dont care if you are the most optimistic supporter on the planet, thats got to be a concern? Hasn't it?

I agree with the left winger bit Cest, but am comfortable without a Bent replacement, would much sooner see us get goals from around the park, which I think we've now got, than relying on one lad who comes in to replace Dazzler. Can understand the frustration though.

Sorry Cest but it sounds very much like lets jump on Bruce at the first chance and whatever you may say it does sound it to me.

Why oh why is it so hard to simply believe Bruce? Sounds very sensible to me, many of us wanted to see what a 4-4-2 would be like with Gyan and Wickham, sess has played every game so why not give him a break.

    I will wait and see.

Both poor in my opinion as i said Colbeck outstanding and if the lad is not on the starting 11 at Liverpool i feel sorry for him.
Bramble gave away a needless penalty as the player was going nowhere.

Colback can play on the left, IMO with what we have got were best with Steed on the left and Richardson overlapping. If we don't buy a winger this is our best bet.

I think he will get someone in even if its on loan.

Like Cest says every man his dog, and his mothers, brothers, sisters hamster knows we need one.
