Having to say " spend it wisely Huw " says it all to me , " Wasting Money " wasn't even in the clubs dictionary a few seasons back , since then ............

In fairness I'm not sure he was given much of a run. There may have been reasons for that but he didn't actually play that much as I recall.
Not every transfer works, I agree wasn't given much chance but maybe there is a reason. so to get what we have for him isn't to bad.
He never had much of a chance with his team mates being poor also......He has found the right club and scoring for fun......Good luck to him i say....
I thought he looked ok with the glimpses we saw. Didn't get a proper chance for whatever reasons. Good luck to him, but lets be honest, we need a striker that is much, much better than him.

Lost a million plus half a seasons wages . Enough to by Michu or Chico in the " Good " old transfer days
I liked it better when we knew the value of a £ and treated it that way .
Eder wasn't expensive in todays market when you looked at his past record, some transfers work some don't, this one didn't, I don't see it as wasted money, Have a look at every club they all make the odd mistake, some more than others. You cant always find these cheap, cheap bargains now and we got lucky with a few.
Michu and Chico weren't expensive in yesterday's market either , the difference is the manager who brought them in knew what he was doing ..... Jenkin's and/or Monk didn't have a clue .
Most see Ayew as the 2nd coming and if we sell him we will make quite a bit money.
Most don't see Graham as a 2nd coming but they both scored a dozen goals their first season .... and Graham did it with 2 less starts .
Michu was a one off signing and doesn't happen all the time. Very difficult to compare him to other signings.
What about Chico At 1.5 , what about Amat , Poz , Sinclair at less than .5 I think .
What about Bony at 12 million and sell him at twice that much .
Frankly I see Amat as an almost equal to Fernandez at 7 million .
Gomis , Eder and Tabanou didn't exactly enhance the coffers .
Graham was a centre forward and Ayew played out wide until the last few games, The days of michu for 1.5 million are gone and will not be found so much now. That was our second season and we were not in a position to pay a lot more so we looked for players in that price bracket and found 2 gems, but now with our position of being in the top 20 richest clubs and now being established, the management are less likely to take a chance on that sort of buy, they are now looking for what they feel are more certain, I am not saying it works but that is what we now have to pay if you want to bring players in.
But if you really want to talk about bargains then forget those 2 and look at Leon-free, Ash-325,000, Rangel-10000, Monk-free, the list goes on, but those days are gone.

Exactly , what is the common denominator to us transferring well and not transferring well ...its Huw having nothing to do with transfers and Huw having everything to do with transfers .
As for Ayew , he might as well be a striker the whole season , even when he was on the wing he abandoned the position and took up a striker role anyways . He was a winger in name only when he played there , his goals came at a price IMO
I'm not so sure that those days have gone because of HJ. Seems a little facile to me. Those days have probably gone (or at least it's more difficult to pick up diamonds at low cost) because we're an established Premiership club and would be very unlikely to be sniffing around players that other clubs aren't also interested in. Everyone knows we have the money too, and because of that the price tends to go up. Not saying it can't happen, only that it's much more difficult.
we can only speculate that Huw had nothing to do with them. Saying that I do feel he interferes in the playing side now far to much.
Nothing has changed , except who is in charge of transfers ... Period.
One doesn't have to look past teams like Leicester and Southampton to see that diamonds are still out there

I'm not saying that HJ's influence in the transfer market hasn't increased. I really don't know, so you may well be right on that. It certainly looks that way, though Guidolin is happy so I guess that's what matters.
But you honestly don't think that anything else has changed these past few seasons. Really? Agents and players don't know we're more established, or that we have more money than ever before? Times have changed imo and it's very, very difficult for all established clubs to sneak a Michu these days. When we signed him nobody paid any attention to us or what we were up to. Now as soon as we start sniffing someone reports it and other clubs get wind of it. Getting 'diamonds' on the cheap really isn't easy at all, regardless of HJ.
