I can only operate on ifs and buts at the moment sadly. Although he hasn't managed at that level, I'd be surprised if he didn't know what it was about and have an idea on who would be ideal. The only thing I am fairly certain on is that that if we don't get him, we will hire some plodder who will no doubt send us even further into the abyss!

I am still not overly confident that Rafa will stay anyway. He is far too good for NUFC

He isn't mate, all rivalry aside its a potentially great club.

He is too high level for the Championship though, without a doubt.

I agree with red & white supersam will kick us on now, maybe not top 6 yet but certainly top 10

He is made for us

I hope you`re right mate, (both of you) but I refuse to get carried away with the optimism. I would agree Sam is the best option we`ve had for a long time but after the repeated lash ups of the last 5 years, atm I would settle for 12th.

Not optimism, pessimism, realism or any other ism. Just a little bit of heading in the right direction. Tired of scrabbling around in the bloody basement.

Heard a few Caulker rumours.

Mind, that's every window now ain't it and he's never moved forward since a decent year at Swansea.
As you say, one ok season at Swansea and utter gash ever since! Wouldn't want him either to be honest. (And I think skrtel is overrated!)

We have O'Shea for one more season (I think) and Beadling on the horizon. So I don't want any signing that might upset the Kone-Kaboul partnership. That's looking good at the moment.

Kaboul being injury prone is the biggest worry. Keep him and Kone fit, thats a good start to a solid defence.

Agreed. But we still have O'Shea to cover for one more year, and Beadling looking a real prospect. We can afford to leave the CD issue for at least one more year without upsetting any apple-carts. That's what I'm getting at.

I agree, thats why i didnt say much more.

Im not an O'Shea fan, but as a back up he'll do for now, if it means improving other positions.

I'm not an O'Shea fan either mate. In fact, I might (repeat very cautiously 'might') consider one relatively cheap option - Matt Kilgallon is being released by Blackburn. This lad never put a foot wrong for us on the field. His issues, whatever they are, are clearly serious and off the field. Only Sam can decide the seriousness of that and I'm not offering any opinions here. But it's there - and he is potentially excellent. Make your own mind up Sam.

Think i'd stick with O'Shea. He's the wrong side of 30 (32), we need younger. Plus he's only played 94 times in the last 6 years despite being in the lower leagues.

I did say AMBITIONS- instead of our usual not in bottom 3 aims - imo BSA will lead us forwards with help from MB and ES - apologies
We have different mindset to you atm but I feel we are on a winning journey
What your views on Mournino Tel - dodgy appt imo - not long term.
Van Gaal did win things and was moulding you to a winning team -imo

If we don't keep Rafa I reckon that is where we will finish. In fact, if we don't keep Rafa I'd be putting money on a consecutive relegation. I'd like to think, with Rafa we would come straight back up however I am very aware of how unpredictable the Championship is.

Seriously, I can't see you pulling up any tree's however I can't see you being mired in a relegation dogfight either.
Rafa I G - you're obviously still in a state of shock and emotionally vulnerable - it's a lot to take - Will he stay ? How will we cope ? How many points will we win the fizzy pop league by ? - many mixed thoughts oh dear ... but at least we have BMA to stand by us - <peacedove> harmless banter

Seems to be a hell of a lot of people who are convinced Mourinho will flop at United (loads on local radio), I guess we'll find out.

Did I want him as our first choice? No.

Do I rate him? Hell yes.

Is he a winner? Yes.

Is he the best we could have got? Probably.

For the record, I don't think he'll flop.

If he does though, I really don't think he'll be picking his next job. He'll still get top jobs of course, but I don't think every club would want him. If he had no history with Real Madrid, for instance. I don't think they'd have him if he flopped at Man Utd, especially with the way it ended for him at Chelsea.

He'd be managing at decent champions league clubs, but not the 'top top' clubs, if you know what I mean.

Agree with you its a question mark against his longevity - that's all - his charisma is off the planet so c a n cope with a big club like Man Utd. He just seems to spit dummy out at times and his opposite number at Man City will cause him angst - no

Yes he was pretty reliable when playing.
But maybe we should aim higher now as he would be for a good solid player but we need more quality with successful experiences

For the record also, I didn't mean you, just been out in the car and it seems a lot of people (on the radio) think he'll bomb.

I can't see him being a failure here, he'll win things most likely (If Van Gaal can he can) but it's the manor in which he wins things that will be his undoing, at this club. If he wants to buy, buy, buy he'll not be loved here, but if he gets a PL title out of Rashford and the boys with only a few additions, that haven't cost the earth and plays attacking football he'll be a legend.

This'll all become very funny if we employ Giggs now after all this fluff about Jose.

Wait until you see 'his opposite number at Man City' mate... talk about being a big baby.
