I just mean from Ron's point of view (not that I know it, but trying to put myself in his shoes), it would seem like a strange jump. Everton in the next few years will not be going any higher than Saints have been in the last two season's league positions. That is plain as day in my eyes. That would be a good finish for them, but they're not getting top four. I think Ron could hope for higher than that. Then again, it gives Ron a chance to show he can do it at another club, which would make him less of a risk for a bigger club concerned he might be a one-off suited to our club. I still see Everton as a big club undisputedly much bigger than us - as I was brought up in the 1980s, but I can't see them in actuality claiming back any of that cache again, even with the new owner. On another note, I hope Everton have a bit more imagination than looking for a team as high up the league ladder as they can from whom to poach a manager. If teams are looking to emulate what we're doing at all, they should look at the template (preparation, hard research, savvy recruitment) we use rather than the personnel.
Ray Wilkins has said that Southampton is a better place for Ron than going to Everton. He did add that RK should hold out for a bigger club than Everton, but I think we all know that.
Phew... for a minute there I thought it was going to be the second time in a week that the unmentionable was mentioned
Doesn't take very much money to move a manager market. Bookies cut the odds if they only have a few tenners on in my experience.
Once people read between the lines and see that VVD,FF,JWP have signed new long deals they might realise that Ron is highly likely to stay and will then they will punt their money eleswhere.
Why don't we start off the slide the wrong way in Ron to Everton, by backing him to sign a new deal here?
I think he will, VVD,FF,JWP wouldn't have signed unless they thought Ron will be extending his contract, just my opinion of course.
You could say that about any manager. What you are actually saying is you don't think Southampton can progress any further. And why phrase it like it's a done thing.? Newspaper talk. There's a pre-match press conference today. I expect Ron to be there announcing his news as usual.
That's lovely of Matt to counter the newspaper rumours, but until Ron says once again for the umpteenth time, I'm staying, this BS won't stop. It's not us who need satisfying. It's the bloody newsmedia who can't take I'm staying for an answer.
Can we expect this to be countered, with a more positive Saints slant, by Jeremy Wilson? He's our go to guy for releasing good news, isn't he?
