An interesting question (clearly hypothetical and open to bias lol) and going against my own view that it's a pointless exercise lol.

If when Klopp arrived we had taken De Gea and Smalling and they had Mignolet and any one of our CB's they want. Would United be sitting with the points they currently have and would we? Who would be higher up the table?

Would the difference in points be larger?

Make it even easier, just swap De Gea and Mignolet. What happens?

LOL...yes..but I believe it's as much to do with our unstable back two as the keeper and continuing with the I'd only take 2 of their squad...that's my 2.

The rest of the squads I see the same strengths and weaknesses and more or less can't see an argument for swapping that would make that much difference in those areas. Both our midfield are a bit mweh for example.

The keeper and stable CB pairing would have made a serious difference to some of our results so those two for me and we might have got fourth much more easily than they have attempted.

It's all down to personal preference/opinion. Based on this season I'd take:

GK - De Gea
LB - Clyne
CB - Lovren?
CB - Wouldn't take any. Sahko would be the one defender out of the lot but he ****ed that up.
RB - Shaw
MF - Milner (current form)
MF - Can
MF - Coutinho
FW - Martial
FW - Sturridge/Origi
FW - Firmino/Rashford

We have pretty poor choice of CBs across both teams, can't bring myself to choose another.

Either Klopp is not as good as people think

But that's a silly argument he's only been at the club for 7 months, he can only be judged on his past record. In regards to his time with us results are likely to be erratic in his first season. Give him a pre-season and full season in charge and a fair assessment can be made on him.

Another LFC fan who gives the same list as me except for possibly 1 more (Rashford)

Welcome to the club of people Bobby and Tobes will [HASHTAG]#meltdown[/HASHTAG] over

This is masking the argument Saint. Man United players are **** and wouldn't get into the Liverpool team. LVG is also a **** coach (so actually **** players + **** coach means even ****ter performances). Everyone already believes United are underperforming.

With a better coach and better players albeit without a pre season, should we not expect far better performance in terms of PPG.

If you dropped a new coach onto Barca in without a pre season you would still expect them to challenge for titles because they have superior players.

Either Klopp is not as good as people think or more like Astros wrong and United players are probably as good if not better than the current Pool bunch
Astro has his own style, and it's certainly not mine. As I said, I hadn't followed your dispute with him so I can't comment. I just made my comment on the highlighted bit of your post, and I stand by it. It's far too early to judge Klopp, and certainly in comparison with LVG- the circumstances for each are quite different.
As to who has the best players, well that's always going to be a dispute amongst fans. You could argue til the cows come home and get nowhere - and anyway, the best individual players don't always make the best team.

We need to give Klopp another 18 months, see where we are by Christmas 2017 before we make too much of a judgement. By then he'll have had 2 pre-seasons and enough time to put together a team of his choosing (within budget restraints obviously).
LVG has had that time and is being judged accordingly - by many more than Astro.

Well yours is always dead so there's nothing new there

<whistle>

never really posted there as its always been quite dead since i joined. Only liked coming onto here to get my piece of Schadenfreunden (i really really really hated Slippy G). Can't really do that now as i quite like klippoty klopp and Slippy has left

It is a silly argument though. Man Utd aren't doing that much better than us to warrant more than 3/4 players to walk into our squad. Despite how **** we are doing, we can still finish within a couple of points of them. I'd go as far to say that even with just De Gea in our team this year we'd probably be 8-12 points better off.

At the end of the day, considering the mediocrity...I'd still be very pleased with a Europa win and CL football to kick on with next season. Definitely take that over finishing 5th with an FA Cup win. <ok>

I'd say he's definitely been worth that number of points to them. He's been outstanding, and his performances have papered over the cracks in the team as a whole.
