But Wenger has signed top class players before (Cech, Ozil, Sanchez) and it continues to make no difference to our league finish. We still tail off, play unmotivated for chunks of the season and end up 3rd or 4th. But suddenly you think Ibra and Hummels would make the difference? With AW as their manager? Wishful thinking. I say save the money for the next manager who could then sign who he actually wanted rather be left with a squad of small attacking midfielders.
There's talk of Arteta going to Man City to join Pep's coaching staff. Arteta I feel is gonna be a top drawer manager. Why did we keep him all this while then. Thought it was so he could join up the coaching staff at Arsenal
That's an astute signing from City if true. He has bags of experience in the Premiership and seems to have a good head on his shoulders. As for him being on our coaching staff, does it matter if he is? We're all assuming that Wenger actually takes anyone's opinions on board. We talk about this ex player and that ex player coming back on the coaching staff, but i don't think it would make a blind bit of difference. Wenger is numero uno, and whatever he thinks, he thinks is right.
As they say, to assume makes an ASS out of U & ME. You really shouldn't assume this hearsay has any merit to it, even if it does bolster your opinion of Le Boss
[QUOTE="God's Cock, post: 9213956, member: to assume makes an ASS out of U & ME. You really shouldn't assume it, even if rion of Le Boss [/iveveeUOTE] My opinion of Le Boss is based on ex players like Steve Bould for instance having little impact on the team defense. The guy was part of our solid core defence during the Graham and Wenger early days. What exactly was Bould bringing to the team? It is widely known that Wenger is stubborn and reluctance to change even when it's an obvious choice. Its his way or no other way. Thats why we always follow the same tactics, the same times for substitutions and the same kind of players.
No. Not suddenly at all. I have said (since we sold RVP in fact) that without a World Class striker we won't win the league. Opta stats...just saw these on Skysports news.. Most chances created - 1st Most successful passes - 1st Most possession in oppositions half - 1st Goals scored - 5th. So what does that tell us?.. Well it tells us we should be winning more games but we ar'nt converting the chances. We play an attacking system. Have a team full of creative players - Without a World Class finisher we will never win the league playing this way. Buying a Top class striker would not only ensure we score more goals we would also concede less.
Also the thing about those stats that encourages me is that Wenger is a stats man. He'll see that and know that we create the most chances, complete the most passes and have the most possession, but that one thing lacking is the finish. Hopefully he will take action this summer and concentrate on bringing in the clinical finisher this team needs.
I agree that we need a top striker but we also need to bolster our defense. Another CB and DM is a must to launch a consistent title challenge.
Agree on the CB but when you look at it Coquelin is now of the best holding players around. Last Season he had THE best stats in Europe for his position and this Season he has still been top notch alongside Kante as the best in the league. http://www.squawka.com/comparison-m...sful_take_ons_%/total_duels_%/total_score#avg
I would take a tall powerful midfielder though to add some physicality to the side. But Coquelin plays the 'Makele role' very well indeed.
Rumours of Sanchez being unhappy with Wengers decision making. He walked straight to the dressing room after being subbed against Norwich and apparently left the stadium early. I think he is becoming frustrated and if he gets a good offer he could be tempted away.
No doubt he's quality but we need backup. When he was out injured we struggled, and we will again if he gets injured in future.
Coquelin is a decent DM and Elneny can play that role too, but I think he's more of a box to box type. Even if Coq doesn't get injured ( .... and knowing our luck) He can't play 50 games per season, so I think it's still an area that needs strengthening.
Bringing in another DM is a no brainer. We've all said the same thing for so long and we've seen how much of an impact Coqs has made as a specialist DM. Backup is essential in that position.
Kante has had a great Season but its easy to raise your game when everyone is playing well and full of confidence. I'm not 100% convinced that he really is 'top class'. I think Wanyama would be equally as good a signing for us in that department.
Granit Xhaka a done deal according to many different sources, good player, but hard to get exited about any new signings, knowing that Wenger will still be in charge for at least one more season.
