Yes Cromer, I'm definitely a fan of Lacon's ales and prefer the taste of the IPAs that most breweries are now producing.
Just enjoying a lovely pint of Ghost Ship in the Glasshouse before heading to the Kings Head on Magdalen Street and meeting a couple of mates before going across the road to the Spice Paradise for a 'Ruby'!!
Yes, it was a bit. I'd a pint of Humpty Dumpty Swallowtail - very nice too. You get a lot of curries and variety of dishes in Spice Paradise that you don't see in other Indian restaurants.
My tipple for this evening and I can highly recommend it to you all. Really nice 'fruity' taste 5.7%ABV
I'd been out with some friends (YES, I have some) and missed by bus home by about 30 seconds, so decided to go to the Murderers for a pint to while away the time and found they were serving Jaipur - superb. £4.10 a pint though!!!
I guess it had to happen - Craft beer giant BrewDog opens Norwich store this weekend!!!! It's opening in Queen Street in one of the premises that has had numerous owners over the years and I'll certainly go in and have a look one evening, just to see what it's all about. Just seen the various incarnations of 1 Queen St (the location of the Brewdog pub) - I only remember - Gundry Whites, the Hogshead and Indulge!!!
I got a shock earlier. I'd done a circular walk which ended up at the Pheasant Hotel in Kelling. Last time,Old Speckled Hen at £3.60 - happy days Today, no ale, so Peroni, which I've never been a fan of, I prefer Moretti, for a mere £4.90 a chuck How can cold, bland fizz cost so much more than an ale which also requires good cellar management, which lager doesn't.
I actually stayed at the Pheasant quite a few times in the noughties and saw it go steadily downhill until ultimately it was taken over by the local trust. The bar area resembled a morgue with that dull red colour painted on anaglypta wallpaper and light bulbs that were about 20w. They had a draught bitter (Southwold) and guinness but as business sunk the draughts disappeared and so did I.
You wouldn't recognise the interior these days, Thurnby!. Very swish with a massive banqueting suite on the back and a new dining area added (encroaching a little on the wonderful garden). Largely geared up for weddings and large functions, I'd guess. Just back far enough from the road to minimise traffic noise, my previous visit with a pint of Hen in the sun in the garden yielded seven (7) buzzards soaring overhead and my first orange-tip butterfly of the year Great if walking around Kelling Heath, Muckleburgh Hill, or the coast path Weybourne -> Sheringham.
