If you're heading for Laois, M1, then M50 (past Finglas) and then the M7 towards Portlaois. Takes about an hour, We drove Hoops Eternal to Kilkenny via the M1, M50, M7 and M9, it took 1 hour 20 minutes.

The point I was making 999;s was that visas will not be required from travel to and from Ireland. Things will remain the same.

PS - if only we had the American sunshine!!!

Cheers Finglas, I did understand your point and a very good one it was too. I realise I've gone off piste somewhat but I couldn't restrain myself from commenting on your lovely roads ;)

Unlike here, driving is a pleasure in Ireland ...
( Unless you're driving in the Slieve Bloom Mountains on a single track road and you come head to head with a class 1 HGV. ) <yikes>

    Of course I am/was. :emoticon-0105-wink:
I maneuvered my vehicle so that I had half a tyre balancing on the mountain's edge and thankfully due to the skill of the lorry driver and I assume his local knowledge we passed with just a *** paper to separate us. It was the screaming from the Mrs and the kids and the 500 foot drop that was off putting.

I hope the lorry driver offered to compensate you and all the family by buying drinks down the local pub as a way of saying sorry. Surprised your ordeal didn't make front page news in the Rathangan local paper. You are right, long distance driving in Ireland is much more relaxing than in mainland UK.

No beers unfortunately Fin. I think that for the lorry driver it was just another day at the office.

The evidence is the location of the camps. France has an area of 248,600 square miles. The two main refugee camps are placed adjacent to the ferry port at Calais and adjacent to the Eurotunnel entrance at Sangatte.

The way to respond to your question is to flip it around: Why, if this was NOT their intent, would the French have set up the camps where they did, instead of ANYWHERE ELSE in their very large country?

By the way, the answer is that there IS no other reason.....

If there are millions flooding into Europe to kill you Col then stay sharp and use your ninja training

The ones hell bent on killing anyone need to rooted out and taken out as we are still in a war with these people having started war on them IMO That at least needs to be accepted

IMO there is plenty of room in the UK to take millions and from those millions there will be people far better at doing jobs than the residence in jobs in the UK ... Afterall business loves and needs good labour that's how it works worldwide
You make it illegal to be in debt in the UK or remove credit you would see a different picture but the UK survives that way and their is more private wealth about than public resource

So IMO it's clear that unless the UK learns to live without thinking their castle is the be all and end all then people worldwide will want to join in

The exodus I believe is generally about good people wanting a better life and chance People intent on killing who are at war will always find a way to engage their target ... As an attacker the UK has done exactly the same since I have been living

It already exists. It's called the Members Register of Interests. And non-disclosure of an interest is a punishable offence (though not necessarily an illegal act).

The UK is just over 93000 sq miles with a population of 64.7 million. France is over 248000 sq miles with 66 million. I would suggest that there's far more space for the refugees in France. Is it that terrible there that they cannot bear to stay?

No the reason the camps are there is purely because of the route people were heading in to try and get into England ... Like mainstream lemins
If anyone thinks all people trying to enter the UK via the Calais area think again ... It's a spotlight area nothing more IMO and nothing like in real life what is shown on the news where the idiot UK public gets all its info

I have travelled through the area for many many years and never seen a problem compared to other parts of France where I have witnessed much harder conflicts

I shop in the Arab quarter of Beziers every other week or Montpellier where there are daily battles as these are heartlands of whatever you want to call it .... It's kick off for sure but never makes the UK news to upset the ****ers all at gardening centres currently because they need to get into springtime debt

Doesn't answer the question. France is facilitating the attempts to reach the UK by providing accommodation (of a sort) right next to the two main UK access points. As we're discussing this in a stay/leave thread, why are the French actively assisting in providing a staging post for attempts to leave the country, if they don't want people to do that? And how will leaving the EU make the prospect of facilitating such efforts any less likely?

You're right of course mucker - as is the bollox about "taking control of our borders" from brexit. Nothing will change compared to now if we leave, or vote to stay - you'll still need a passport to enter the UK and nothing else.

The French authorities act, as constrained by the French Courts.

The French Courts act, as constrained by the European Court of Human Rights Court.

The European Court of Human Rights Court is a ****ing law unto itself

The Members Register of Interests deals with matter to be reported in respect of which an MP could have a conflict of interest. I don't believe this covers offshore interests re tax avoidance. If it did, why have Cameron and Osbourne both confirmed on a voluntary basis that they have no such offshore interests, a moral issue not a breach of parliamentary duty?

Maybe because - whilst both have said they had such interests in the past - they do not have them now?

We're just going round in circles. I've given you the evidence, and you have (regrettably) reverted to type and gone all generalised whine rather than stick on topic and debate the evidence. I'll ask again - let me know a valid reason or evidence why the French would situate these two camps precicely in the two places designed to facilitate access from France to the UK, if not to encourage and assist the illegal travel off of their land and into ours?

And it's not that France kowtows to the EU. Having recently been over in France, I can assure you that they really don't bother with most of the EU regulations, and the EU don't really chase them. Certainly Health and Safety means nothing over there.

I don't think Cameron ever admitted he had benefitted or may benefit from Panamanian investments. That's why the balloon's gone up now. Osbourne's kept his family financial matters quiet too, despite the fact that we know they were a couple of rich boys
