3 or 4 years , which can be reduced on appeal.... really!!! "Johnson, who has been stripped of his 12 England caps, admitted kissing and grooming the besotted fan on the first day of his trial and was later found guilty of a more serious child sexual assault.Sentencing him, the judge, Jonathan Rose, said he had abused his position of trust with a girl 12 years his junior in a way that had caused her “severe psychological harm”. It can now be disclosed that Johnson was also arrested for possessing extreme pornography – believed to be a bestiality video – on his laptop, after the judge lifted reporting restrictions." Really
No, Beth, 6 years that can be reduced on appeal to 3 or 4 years. The "more serious child sexual assault" you highlight was sexual touching i.e. more serious than grooming and kissing. It's culpable but it is surely at the least serious end of these types of offences, and it's not rape. As to the extreme pornography, the mind boggles as to what it might involve, but I'm not aware that's it's illegal or that he's been convicted in this regard. He needs serious sexual counselling imo
Sorry, but no. You can't say 'that person got x years, so he should get y years'. If you could, the defence would have done so immediately.
Would have been quite an odd defence. It's quite a valid comparison- one person groomed and had sex dozens of times with a 15-year-old. The other groomed and had sex zero times with a 15-year-old.
The defence can't complain to a judge about his sentence after he passes it. The defence can appeal however, and I suspect consideration will be given to that now.
I would hope that if johnson appeals it will be thrown out. The young girl involved in this has suffered a lot, plus Johnson family having fb campaigns to plead his "innocence" and generally slate this just turned 15 year old girl into a "gold digger". Maybe if this idiot had actually trained harder, practiced a bit more, maybe we would be discussing his role in the euros that are coming up - however he has made the choice to throw his career away, miss his own child growing up and cheat on his partner. Maybe it's me, (and the fact I can be a grumpy old sod...with morals & values) but too much money in this working class sport turns heads and brings the worst out in all.
my personal opinion is yes. Johnson appearing to be the innocent party in all this just stinks. Watford - we may have to agree to disagree on this
I wasn't disagreeing with you necessarily, just posing the question. I don't think Johnson was ever perceived as the innocent party.
Too many to list, but basically those who hint at it being the girls fault (in part) for being 15, letting it happen, and what Johnson did not being as bad as others. So many comments that try to excuse what he did, it's actually nauseating...
I agree. Last year there was some teacher at a school near me ( Rydens enterprise in Walton ) who got 3 years for grooming some 15 year old pupil..Pretty similar to Johnson case; texting and groping in his car etc
What's actually quite nauseating is the hysterically over-the-top reaction on here to his actions. He was in the wrong.......badly. The girl was under-age, but was not raped or, as far as I can tell, forced to do anything against her will. She was star struck and probably influenced by the ridiculous celebrity culture that is prevalent these days. He's not a rapist and nor has he "fiddled" or worse with very young children. He's been made an example of and I suspect that he may get a shorter sentence if he appeals. I'm not excusing his actions and I find him a repulsive twat. I just feel that the sentence was over-the-top.
maybe it's me but the children who have suffered these assaults appear to have been forgotten in all this. The adults who committed these offences were in positions of trust, potentially idols to these children and yet this appears not have been taken into consideration when reading some comments. Whilst some teenagers can make themselves look older, they are still kids at the end of the day in the eyes of the law.
probably the most accurate statement on here of which we would all agree "She was star struck and probably influenced by the ridiculous celebrity culture that is prevalent these days".
So are saying he should get 6 years for not training hard enough! But seriously what I don't get is that most 15 year old girls were sexually active or well able to decide themselves not to be, 50 years ago in the UK and other W European countries, and the trend for good or bad has been to grow up younger. Girls in fact have been shown to develop earlier and are often more able to make these decisions than boys of their age. I can understand the law to the extent that it protects the minority of 15 year old who are not so developed. Perhaps I'm wrong but the girl in this case doesn't seem to be in this minority. Agree Johnson knowingly broke the law so some punishment is necessary, 3 or 4 years compulsory weekly community service seems more appropriate, and may teach him some decent values which he looks to need.6 year? Think people killing others with their motor vehicles get less.
Sadly we live in the "Xfactor reality World where everyone wants to be famous". I don't like getting into these type of debates because they normally end in tears.
