I agree with your sentiments totally, Charlie, but is it really a stick to hit footballers with. Is the broad-brush really deserved? Take a look at all walks of life, lads and lasses. Footballers make good press though, don't they.

As a matter of interest, how many footballers do you know personally?

You supported it, you droned on, you belittled folk when it was in print on the website and in print on the presses, you didn't take on board all the facts, you just droned in defence of your heroes, you are you.

Old <laugh>?? You daft sod, grow up , Snigger. No more from me, it's Good Friday, after all. <cheers>

Surely its about far more than this being a good press story? AJ has abused the privileged position his career put him in. He probably thought himself above the law and that his abuse of his victim was something he could get away with. Poor old AJ is going to spend 3 years in prison - probably no more and maybe some of that will be in an open prison - who knows? I'm sure he won't be near any head cases who would want too do harm to someone they considered a nonce.
After that his sentence will be over - he will no doubt still be set up for life in financial terms and by then the world will have moved on and will be full of newer wars, atrocities and scandals. But what about his victim? Will she be able to rebuild her life? If you've got sympathy with anyone in this case save it for the victim and not for the perpetrator.

I do not think of Johnson as 'poor-old'; as I have said earlier, right verdict, harsh sentence , but get on with it - no sympathy. What I don't understand is why Charlie wants to label all footballers the same, because they're not.
What about his victim? I agree, we should certainly spare her a thought. I am sure this whole sorry episode of her life will stay with her, but not a bad thing, maybe? It could have been far, far worse. He drew the line at pushing her into full sex, there was no rape, she got her signed shirt. I hope her parents (and others) have learnt a lesson as well. The right one is going to prison, I would honestly think that the worse part of this whole sorry story for the victim is what has taken place between her telling her parents and today.

All footballers are not the same - agree 100 %. Very few are *****philes, rapists, wife beaters etc. But you are way off beam to say that being abused and the memory of that abuse remaining with the victim for the rest of her life is maybe not a bad thing. Of course its a bad thing - it shouldn't have happened. You make it sound as though he did his victim a favour by not raping her and that he could expect something of a sexual nature in return for a signed shirt. As a society we have a responsibility to protect the vulnerable (i.e. children) from being abused and when abuse takes place to ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice. Some people might think the sentence is harsh - others might see it as lenient (he won't do 6 years). The worse part of the story for the victim is not telling her parents - it is the fact that she was abused by someone she idolized and by all accounts is still suffering online abuse from some moronic idiots on Twitter (no doubt misguided Sunderland fans who are still in denial about AJ's guilt)

They do indeed make good press. How many do I know? I was brought up around football teams from a young age. So I know a lot of footballers. I feel as qualified as anyone to speak about footballers in general given my upbringing within the game.

I did say that it was maybe not a bad thing, although I never thought it necessary to explain the detail. My point is that this unfortunate episode, some of her making, might give her better level in life. I'm sure she will sue, good luck to her, he deserves it; but not all lads are the same.

I said the two of them aren't helping disprove the idea that people think footballers are a bit thick. They aren't. I never said I agree that most footballers are a bit thick.

Adam Johnson gets 6 years! But that female teacher assistant who slept with an 15 year old over 50 times gets community service! Equality

    bit of a disgrace tbh

Still not apologising for your lie about me stating I supported higher prices for kids?

My comments were almost all "wait til the full facts are revealed, and stop been **** to OLM".

Yet you still persist with your delusional ****e and lies.

The facts were revealed, on the clubs own website. It clearly showed one seat one price NO discount for OAP's or kids.

Due to the uproar the club have decided to make a few tweaks ( think that was OLM's word ) It will be interesting to see how two years work can be tweaked to make it palatable.

Edit. we should take this to one of the membership threads rather than disrupt this one.

It is going to be roughly as already announced, the tweaking currently going on is not going to fundamentally change what's already out there.

I must have missed the bit where it said this is a proposal / consultation document and your comments are welcome.

Sorry, but you are still making it sound as if the child - for that is what she is - is partially to blame for the abuse she suffered. The blame in this case lies 100% with AJ. He is the (supposedly) responsible adult - and as the judge said, he groomed this girl for his own sexual gratification. How can that be "some of her making"? If we are going to say a child who is groomed by and adult is to blame in any way shape or form for being groomed, then we are going down a very sorry road indeed.

AJ hunted the young girl down like an animal hunts its prey

    She had just turned 15.

A more sensible girl would have informed her parents

In my opinion she was immature for her age...

    He deserved all he got.

You should call yourself Forgetful Tiger, or Backpedalling Tiger or even just Happy To Lie Through Your Teeth Tiger.

This was you very happy with taking the money from children to reduce your own ticket.

What part of that did I misunderstand?

Obadiah gave you a chance to change your stance:

    You replied:

He tried again (because it was the right question):

and then later, more nonsense from you ...

It was clear to you by now that your loudmouthed stance was a tad unpopular - it still is.

No lies from me, Snigger. <ok>
