Only speculation I know but it is not just Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland but also a difference of the generations - the 18-29 year old age group is also mostly in favour of remaining, and they will have to live with the result for longer In a normal election these differences could be subsequently reversed but here we must presume that the result will stand for the foreseeable future. If I were a Scot I would want to break away in that scenario - even without a referendum.

Can't remember what the rules about the last Scottish referendum were but I think there was a minimum amount of time that needed to pass before a new referendum? I might be misremembering it though...It will definitely be discussed if it did happen though.

I doubt the reunification of Ireland will happen in our lifetimes. Too much bad blood there.

Put the 'Great' back into 'Great England', or something like that.

Yes there is an implicit emotional nationalist agenda..... hence the pull of UKIP and why papers such as the Sun and the Mail/Express post the crap they do.

There was an interesting programme on Radio 4 about how to make a Brexit. In it it was stated that, "We don't have any trade negotiators in Whitehall - we haven't had any since 1973," "The British government would be hard-pressed to find people to do a trade negotiation. They might have to borrow civil servants from other European countries."

Very true, but that makes us hand wringing liberal Guardian reading clueless lefties (which apparently are all things some posters on here are allowed to call us)

It's strange that the EU 'unelected' politicians get so much grief from some but we don't hear a peep about the House of Lords or Lizzie making decisions without us voting for them.

    Xenophobic democracy...

More fearmongering. We have the BEST lawyers in the world being the BEST country in the world and everyone will be queuing up to give us free stuff and we'll live happily ever after swimming around in gold like Scrooge McDuck <ok>

Many people, myself included , believe that it would take many years to untangle our involvement with the EU and strike new deals. After all it took Greenland three years to just leave and they had only a tiny
involvement compared to the UK. If this did happen we could well be into another election, and what a mess that would be.

They wouldn't want to put trade tariffs on anything, since they all love us so much, they'll just bring tribute to the Queen and send us their finest wines and meats for our feasts.

    Or...

    Nevermind <doh> More fearmongering...

The irony is that Brexiters like the Norway deal but don't realise they have to accept free movement of people as well for being part of the free trade agreement.

All that nonsense about 'we're one of the biggest economies in the world' doesn't really hold up as a fact when it comes to trade negotiations, we need them more than they need us...

    True...

Even if it all goes horribly wrong, the economy goes to s*** and we lose our status in the world they'll still pretend to be happy that we don't have a tiny amount of laws established as part of a larger community of countries...

Which laws would the exiters want to legislate to remove from British law? Several years normally to get something like that through Parliament probably, if they could. Back to the election chaos again.

No need, it's readily available on the HMRC website under the Top25 trading partners data. You will need to add France, Belgium, Italy and Spain to your list - of the top 25 trading partners only Ireland have a trade deficit with the UK.
    Damn those facts eh?
