She targeted Adam Johnson, responded to his sexual texts, she may even have initiated them given the number of deleted messages, bragged about riding him to her friends and was prepared to have full sexual intercourse with him in the back of his car despite him just becoming a father. She bragged about riding him again on the night he stood her up. The next day she complained to the police. If he'd have turned up she is likely to have had consensual sex with him.
So what did he do? He sent her rude texts, kissed her and put his hand down her pants. It was all consensual and she wanted more. He didn't once he found out the potential consequences.
Would Adam Johnson have been a threat to my daughters? Extremely doubtful. There is no evidence he targeted underage girls and no evidence of child pornography.
Do I think Johnson deserves 5 years in prison? No. If it had been a married man and the babysitter its likely to have resulted in a suspended sentence.
Do I think Johnson is a nice man? No.
Of course, but I think the point is the girl did want him to. Obviously that's still clearly illegal but the seriousness of the offence is what's debatable. It was certainly stupid.
He was the adult she was the child it's up to him to decline her advances.
He knew her age no excuses it's as simple as that.

I know but saying she wanted it shouldn't get a reduced sentence. Otherwise at what age do you take that into account? What if a 10 year old wanted it?
There was a case in the US where a female teacher slept with a 15 year old pupil, she was never charged with anything because the boys Dad said he was fully aware of what he was doing and in no way was groomed or taken advantage of.

Reminds me of the 15 year old lad who arrived home early from school. His mother asked why he was home early and he replied he had been suspended. What for, she asked him?
