Weird because I didn't think the linesmen had access to view slow mo replays.. I thought they saw it all live and in real time.

Even weirder is that he's talking about Mark Lawrenson's top punditry and hasn't mentioned a linesman.

I was dubious at first. However, Benteke was running at pace (shock, I know) and the other feller's knee caught him, having pretty much the same effect as an ankle-tap in rugby. He couldn't help but go down <ok>

Point is, makes no difference if us sitting at home, pundits watching on tv from a camera angle 100 yards away in real time can see the contact... The Lino 10 yards away saw the contact, he's the man with the best view in the stadium and saw the contact and flagged.

Like I said, I thought it had to be a foul.

If a penalty was given at every bit of contact in the area there would be 50 penalties per team each match.

    The rule is foul.

    Not contact, not touch.

    Foul.

I disagree. Ankle taps only work because the ankle that is tapped comes into contact with the other leg, causing a trip. If you watch the replay you clearly see him bring his foot back into line before planting it on the turf and falling down. He didn't even lose his balance until he chose to.

But as Biscan says, the linesman doesn't have the benefit of replays, all he saw is contact followed by a fall. Impossible for him to tell that the contact didn't actually trip Benteke, hence the penalty was given.

I don't think there's much to discuss when you listen to Benteke's post match interview.

    Geoff Shreeves "Was there contact?"

Benteke looking sheepishly "Errrm, I think so..." <laugh> Even IF you want to straw clutch with the "contact" argument, Benteke blows that out the water first hand.

Anyway it's all besides the point, I have no sympathy for Crystal Palace just like I wouldn't for Liverpool if the situation was the other way around. Fcking arseholes playing against 10 men and were 1-0 up at the time. You can't really blame the opposition team for winning a game they never should have.

Astro has now gone a complete 180 turn, here is what he posted to me earlier today

    astroturfnaut said:
Klopp is above Fergie's level, the only thing Fergie has over him is being in the game longer

Fergie benefitted from massive influence in the domestic compeitions, Man Utd's financial power on the back of massive debt. Consequently he was destroyed in Europe whenever he didn't have those advantages.

He really is the lowest grade of football "fan", it astonishes me that so many of the Dippers ring fence him.

UIR's never managed to get that kind of support and he's a massive improvement on Astrocunt!

The cavalry have arrived to defend him, what a surprise !

From my travels on other boards I've noticed that morons like astro spouting similar nonsense are usually reigned in and are always in spats with more sensible posters. The dippers on the other hand lap it up, and will not tolerate him being derided, in any way
