Probably the most important thing about this. The 'deal' Cameron is pushing for is nothing but a gentleman's agreement by the other 27 member states. They have to ratify this 'deal' by enacting laws in Brussels and Strasbourg. If we vote to stay in, they could and probably will never agree to ratify the things Cameron wants. Ironically, voting out would make our future clearer.
There is no universal 'European' civilisation or culture. Scandinavia has different values to that of Italy, France has different values to that of Poland. The Enlightenment, from which we gained most of our 'European' values was limited to Western Europe - France, Britain, Italy, Germany etc etc. There's even talk of Turkey joining and their values are very different to those of Western Europe. Eastern Europe is notably less liberal and more religious than Western Europe. Your view of Europe and European history is naive at best.
Aye cos Spain are going to put a stop to it ffs. Scotland would stroll into the club, regardless of what happens in Catalonia.
Do you think I or any **** else gives a **** what Spain says? The Spanish are only slightly less tedious than you.
I used to do EU negotiations. I think there's a clause in the Treaty which says Spain isn't allowed to intervene unless the delegate rambles on for twenty minutes without once mentioning the subject the group is actually debating...
we'd be in a worse state than ROI was a few years back ... Once the economy settles down, across the uk and Europe , then Scotland will be in a better position to become independent ... And if they go for it again , we better be going for truely independent and get the queen as head of state tae **** as well.
Whose to be sure ? Do they have form for letting in newly independent countries without following their procedures ?
It just surprises me that so many people seemingly think the status quo is so bad that they're prepared to chuck it all away for a future that is, at best, uncertain. Sure, I am a creature of habit and cautious by nature but it really worries me. Ah well - looks like Pud and I will be spending the next twenty years on here saying " we told you so"...
