Matip will be a good signing once he gets up to speed with the prem. He is young and quick so should be ok. The fact he is on a free is not relevant. Madrid signed Macmanaman on a free from us, did that make him a crap player. Some players prefer to run down their contracts as they make more by way of a signing on fee, if clubs are stupid enough to let them do it, or so desperate to keep them as long as possible, then that is up to them.
