I don't think this can be held against Sunderland or their fans. I would be very surprised if today's developments aren't the first the club has been aware that he was even considering pleading guilty. Up until this point there has been very little information in the public domain, and the club may well have thought that it was a case of a man in his 20's having sex with a girl he mistakenly believed to be in her late teens. I doubt AJ was sharing anything that would have incriminated him with anybody. Doing so would have ****ed him up even if his defence team had come up with a way of getting him off all charges, and he would probably have held on to every possibility of coming out of this well that he had. I don't understand why people would think that somebody who is capable of knowingly grooming an underage girl (now admitted) would feel a moral need to tell his employers all of the facts. His defence team certainly wouldn't have shared anything with the club that AJ did not want them to. There should always be a presumption of innocence until proven (or admitted) guilty.In my opinion, this should not have been played out in the public domain until guilt had been established. The authorities were more than capable of putting safeguards in place while he was under suspicion without making it public knowledge. In this case it turns out that he deserved the abuse he got, but had he not it would have been wrong to have named him. I also think it's very wrong that it has taken this long to be dealt with. It's not fair on the victim to have dragged on so long as much as anything else.
If only he played for Man United, the courts would probably retrospectively reduce the age of consent to 15. Or Man City, then the owners could have paid for his bail, her silence, and bought the Old Bailey for good measure. Or just claimed he was in Dubai at the time, therefore was actually a bit late to the party.
I dont get the delay in a response from the mackems, like an official response? Will they make a statement? will they stand by him? Maybe they are in contract negotiations and will announce a new 4 year deal!
I'd be surprised if they are allowed to make any sort of detailed statement until after the trial is over. At most they will probably just make a general statement saying they are aware of today's developments and they will publish their response once the legal process is complete. I could be wrong though. Perhaps his admission to some of the charges will be enough. It will be down to the club's lawyers rather than the PR department though.

Fair enough the Sunderland fans are being unfairly tarnished in your eyes, but its not like a lot of your lot don't jump all over every high profile incident our club is attached to (horses, Bartons etc etc). Nature of the beast so to speak
