An interesting fact about the possible Everton takeover by Americans. If it goes through 14 of 20 Premier League clubs would be owned by overseas investors. That would give them enough voting power to run the PL as they wished. No relegation, minimum prices. They are investors who need a return on their money.

Fair point, but without relegation the PL loses it's edge and therefore some of it's appeal, and thus it's value.

It'd be counter productive short term thinking that.

Just read this elsewhere. After us all pointing to that league as a good example and they still think they are overcharged.

They'd stroke if they had to pay PL prices!

It is such a sad state of affairs....

Too late now but I Wonder if the council could have put some requirements into local support as a condition of planning permission...

I don't want to see it either but relegation is an alien concept to the Yanks especially. Who is going to stop them? The FA? Scudermore? David Cameron? Money talks.

It is a nice idea but if not feasible they could certainly think about giving loyalty bonuses/discounts to fans who attend more than one game with a single ticket and don't have a season ticket, fans who go to multiple away games etc etc

Indeed it does, which is why it won't happen, as without relegation the league becomes sterile and the quality drops.

If you're a Chairman of a lower table side sat on £100m of TV revenue and there's no relegation are you going to spend big on players fees / wages, in order to maintain your place at the top table? Ermmm no, as it wouldn't matter if you finished bottom year after year.

Only the top half a dozen sides would keep chasing the top slots and the rest would slowly but surely become cannon fodder - and the leagues Worldwide appeal would disappear - and the £100m could become £20m again.

The beauty of the PL is that the TV revenue increases have allowed the entire league to attract and buy good quality players from around the globe. The sides in the bottom 3 can get results against the top 3 on their day - that's what makes it special, as it doesn't work like that across the rest of the football World. Remove that level of competition and the league would morph into La Liga....

true they could, but isnt your point aimed at the club regarding loyalty, franks was to do with planning permission (council) and putting certain requirements on them getting it.

The return on investment doesn't come form being midtable.

    It just doesn't.

The return comes from stars, big names and winning things.

Thats why FSG got a terrible shock this summer when they returned to the scene of their "triumph" in australia and Indonesia 2 years previously. We had no stars, midtable team and nobody turned out... well half filled stadia.

Thats why I think they sacked rodgers and got klopp in. their profits are made in global branding.

If I think they felt £30 tickets would create a cauldron of noise and a "customer experience" for the corporate box types they'd probably do it....

As for everton's owners... I think if they buy it out its to gain some access to markets. But the vincent tan's of this world.... or abramovic or the sheilks at city... its not for profit. its for ego.

RA has never made a penny off cheslea but his mates like london same as they like big yachts and a cl final is what he wants to take them to.

not all owners are the same.... but none care about fans.
