Have to agree.
Not as simple as just paying for Grey and Austin.
You make rules then stick to them, or madness lies on the path of you no limits.
Grey was down to us needing to shift wages and a player, so we stalled and it went south. That's life.

Technically it went West....<cheers>

Reports suggest that Stoke are looking to sign a new striker, and if that comes off they will let Diouf join Norwich? Maybe Bamford is Norwich's back up plan if that doesn't come off otherwise I would have thought that deal would have been put to bed by now? It's going to go down to the wire but Brucey may yet get Bamford in on loan with a view to signing on a permanent come the Summer subject to promotion?

Boro's potential signing of Rhodes suggests they have given up on McCormack and don't feel Bamford is an option for them either in this window?

All if's, but's, and maybe's, go on Brucey get it done, you know it makes sense

The only chance we have of getting Bamford is if he's not gone anywhere by 11-12 o'clock Monday night. Even then it'll have to wait until the loan window opens in a further week, I think.
The whole alleged Powell deal will put the Bamford thing to bed earlier if it happens!

Carlton Palmer also had a full international cap!

How was that ever possible! Amazing

He actually got 18 caps - which reflects both the paucity of options available at the time and also the fact that he looked a lot better than some other players the Turnip tried.

Geoff Thomas was found out horribly, He also picked David Bardsley, a past-it Gordon Cowans, Andy Gray (the Palace one), David White... but Palmer is always held up as the poster child for Taylor's failure, presumably because he got a fair number of caps, is ugly and has long limbs that made him look Bambi-like.

The reality is he was a very effective club footballer who wasn't up to international class - but still did better than a lot of others who were tried. I remember some England games when it seemed like he was the only one who was giving 100%.

We're signing Powell as a striker, so it's not likely to have much of an effect on our midfielders, though if we get offered any money for Huddlestone or Aluko, we'll probably take it (it will take a release clause being triggered for us to lose Diame).

He's a big unit to to play off the front.

May be a compromise as we can't get a out and out striker, or a back up plan If one of our attacking midfielders goes...

Who knows. I can't see him being bought as an outright forward, more as the second man sitting behind the forwards we have.

We can't afford Rhodes, we tried to sign him, but they wouldn't sell him. End of conversation. We'd of signed Gray if we removed a couple of high earners, we didn't, end of. Hernandez has stepped up to the plate and if fit will score as many goals. The only one we really missed out on was Austin, twice! Diame, Snodgrass, Clucas and Maloney are as good as anything creative wise and we have the best defence. The only worry is if Hernandez gets injured, but it would cost a fortune to cover so there's not a lot we can do. So man up put your seat belts on and get ready for the run in.

Bringing any player does not mean there has to be someone leaving. It just gives us more strength in depth and that we can keep players fresh for the run in. We would all love our starting 11 to be fixed and injury free and go through the rest of the season unbeaten but players are human after all and will have the odd dip in form and tiredness takes its toll. The option to rotate players and still put out a team capable of beating anyone in our division is what we need so personally I'd like to see the new keeper and a defender and midfielder and striker come in before Monday night.
So far we have a keeper lined up and Josh tymon to cover Robbo. Haydon can cover the centre backs if ever needed and Elmo covers right back as well as Taylor would. We have loads of midfield options and I'd love Harry to have a go in centre midfield if daws and Davies are at the back. Upfront I'd still like to see an out and out striker but Powell seems to have the ability to be a suitable back up option. I'd like someone who has a point to prove like Kemar Roofe at Oxford who will want to show he can play at an higher level rather than some premier league player who drops down just to get a game.

He was the international equivalent of Junior Lewis. Effective at club level, but certainly not international standard.
