Probably a colloquialism connected to the phrase " a flea in the ear" to subtly chide misbehaving kids or rebuke someone for a minor mistake. Likely of American origin from 19th century British immigrants.
This forum is so funny, one minute it's, Hayden's ****, we need Meyler, next minute Meyler out Hayden in. Then a few good performances, we have the best squad in the division with the most strength in depth, then it's, we need new everything as we'll never go up! Reality is we have a decent squad, not a lot of depth in some areas but loads in basically only midfield. Some players go through a bad patch, but when the team does bad then no matter how bad that player has played most recently, they're the answer, reality no, they need a break. I don't know how SB decides to pick the team but I'm guessing he doesn't just pick players by name, it must be attitude, performance in training & also in matches, although sometimes I do wonder with the latter, obviously no one is going out to try to play badly & SB is trying to pick the right team, so when it goes wrong, it must seem very confusing for everyone not just us!
We were poor last season, we were relegated, the manager thought he had failed, he was right, he offered to resign. Nothing too positive in any of that. This season it must be a bloody huge coincidence that we seem to improve when the team changes reflect the thoughts of the so-called whingers. I would like to thank Charlton for flattering us. Steve Bruce is still behind his own self-imposed target of two points per game. His post away match comments clearly meant nothing to many, he wasn't confused, disappointed, lost for ideas, he must have been on top of his job, full of confidence, oozing ideas, clear in his strategy. Well I'm confused, because he didn't say that, did he? It's been said, four games that will test the change.
Wow. 4 pages ago I was getting some pretty heavy flack, now there are people also making reasoned arguments and it's all fine. Fonzie be praised!
Crikey there's some differences of opinion on here and some great comments I've never advocated sack or change the manager hasn't it been regularly stated on here that it's the hardest league to get out of, now it's a prerequisite that Steve Bruce should get us out of it, I've sat next to a lot of know alls at matches that I can only presume have never played due to their bizarre take on the game, we are second in the league we have a descent manager we murdered Middlesbrough who incidentally lost to Bristol City so they will be looking for a new manager now, every team will hit a blip we did let's hope it's over.
Behind Bruce in this division.......just But not if we go up. We play like headless chickens away from home ...
We are Hull City. We can go from the mountain tops, to the abyss, all in a week. Expect the unexpected
So very true Peter. Also 3 years ago we only took 1 point in January. IMO, the PNE defeat has woken them all up. So glad SB acknowledged to Burnsy (post game interview) that he rested Meyler and Elmo as they have run a million miles for him. Freshened it up with fresh legs.
You're blaming Akpom for the losses at Leeds and Rotherham? He played less than 20 minutes against Leeds and Hernandez played against Rotherham.
That's true about elmo & meyler they do put the miles in! But sometimes you need that bit extra to win a game! No way would elmo have scored a goal like snoddy did!
YES I AM FFS. The fact you don't beggers belief btw, Akpom started and played the full game @ Rotherham. Akpom missed so many clear cut chances. I don't care how many minutes he played. Akpom missed sitters in both games. FACT.
I really don't rate Akpom, but blaming him for us losing a game he played 19 minutes in is ridiculous.
Why ? He missed chances any player at any level should score with. Hence why I blame Akpom as he missed them. That header @ Leeds ffs. He could not even hit the target from 6 yards. Don't even bother about the Rotherham game. Those misses were equally shocking.
