We lost the first half 1-0. We were 1-0 down against Palace in 67 minutes earlier in the season either with the same system. You surely can't still think 5-3-2 is the right system to play Palace (or anyone else for that matter) with?
You're the only genius on here. You want to see a failed system that we can't score with used over and over.
Why? We were 1-0 down because of a daft mistake, not the system. I have no idea what was happening on the training ground this week. I have no idea of what stats (and you love your stats) came through from the coaching TEAM about Palace that suggested that it would be the way to go, but I'm sure there was a lot to suggest that it was the best way of snuffing out any threat that Palace pose.
It depends on what style you want to see. We're struggling with scoring and conceding atm, so why not in a cup game, let the shackles off and allow the players and fans to enjoy a football game. Starting a home game with 5 at the back is about as negative as it can get, yes it worked to some degree in the first half(they had minimal chances), but we've had so many more shots on target this second half. That is something we can build on and goals (also wins but small steps) breed confidence.
I'm not a genius at all. I wouldn't be so arrogant to think I know better than Koeman and a professional coaching team.
You seem only interested in stopping Palace attacking when we are at home. Ever thought about how we are going to score goals with that system?
You may be right, but there'll be very good reasons as to why the system was chosen, of that I have no doubt.
By having better strikers and ones in better form than we have right now. Our main striker is injured. Therefore you work with what you have.
If you look back over the bad 9 game run, we were always having chances and very good ones, but we were not taking them. Neither of the views are correct or wrong and I think this is the crux of some of the angst on here. Some people offer up an opinion and others offer one up as if it is fact! Maybe, just maybe, it just isn't easy picking a football team.
